2020 ( MMXX) will be a leap year starting on Wednesday of the Gregorian calendar. There is a debate as to how specific years of the 21st century, including 2020, should be pronounced in English. Although the majority of English-speakers say "two thousand (and) X" for any specific year post–1999, it is often suggested that the continuation of this type of pronunciation for the entire 21st century would be inappropriate or unnatural, given the alternative "twenty X" option. Many experts agree that majority usage of "two thousand (and) X" is a result of influences from the Y2K hype, as well as the way "2001" was pronounced in the influential 1968 film, 2001 A Space Odyssey. Experts also suggest that since former years such as 1805 and 1905 were commonly pronounced as "eighteen oh" or "nineteen oh" five, the year 2005 should naturally have been pronounced as "twenty oh-five".[1] Many people, ranging from linguistic and academic experts to Internet bloggers, predict that the "twenty X" pronunciation method will eventually prevail, but a time frame as to when this change will occur often differs. The year 2010 is suggested by many[2][3], while 2011[1] and 2013 are popular as well. The latest time frame for change is usually placed at 2020[1] or 2100.

November 07, 2008
Carbon Offsetting businesses of all types are already starting to feel the impact of the crunch. Consumers are tightening their belts while talks on a post 2012 Kyoto Agreement have stalled undermining investment in carbon offset projects. In Europe the 2020 commitment to reduce carbon emissions by at least 20 pct below 1990 levels with 20 pct of energy coming from renewable energy sources looks unrealistic especially when balanced with the need for energy security. On a positive note post the US election a US initiative to reduce carbon emissions is likely. But the credit crunch will make ... (read more)

Living to a ripe old age is now quite common so now we need to focus on the quality of life.

April 30, 2008
Scientists estimate that the legendary snows of Mount Kilimanjaro will be completely gone by 2020. At 19,345 feet high, the top of Kilimanjaro is at an extreme altitude, where our bodies struggle to cope with the lack of oxygen. In fact, half of all climbers are turned down by the mountain, mostly because of altitude sickness, caused by the inability to adapt to the altitude, called acclimatization. 21. Encouraging property development and lowering carbon emissions: a shortlist has been drawn-up for
April 30, 2008
Concerns for the environment coupled with the housing shortage have witnessed a radical approach to UK land use planning, but plans for up to ten 'eco-towns' by 2020 are not universally popular, writes Alex Way.
In 2007 the Government set-out its plans for a number of 'carbon-neutral' towns of between 5 and 20,000 new homes, known as 'eco-towns'. These eco-towns were originally envisaged to be delivered on Brownfield UK land (ie industrial development land) and 'surplus' public-sector UK land sites, but as plans have evolved, some Greenfield UK land is also now under consideration. 23. UK Land Ownership: Concentrated in the Hands of the Few
April 30, 2008
Buying land for land investment purposes has permeated the national consciousness, but owning English land remains a privilege, writes Alex Way. There can be little doubt that the rate of residential property development on UK land is set to rise markedly in the next ten to fifteen years. Yet the Government's house-building plans - 3 million new homes on UK land by 2020 or 250,000 per annum for the next twelve years - are manifestly ambitious, given house-building levels are currently running at around 165,000 per year. The Government proposes that one million new homes can in fact be a... (read more)
