The representative professional body is the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors who have the last and final say as to how this work needs to be conducted. At its most basic a chartered surveyor's job involves land, property and construction. They might be asked to value property and examine buildings for structural defects; they might also offer expert advice on environmental issues and construction. All of the above is somewhat key in the overall purchase of any property. In terms of their job on the whole, they very very much cover a very broad spectrum of duties and they can be key in ensuring the buying process to buying a property is an easy one too. Understandably, most people aren’t aware of the breadth of work or of the skills employed but, wherever there’s property or land, a surveyor is likely to have been involved at the planning, building, marketing, management, refurbishment and disposal stages of the life of that property.
