AfricaAfrica, particularly central eastern Africa, is widely regarded within the scientific community to be the origin of humans and the Hominidae tree (great apes), as evidenced by the discovery of the earliest hominids and their possible ancestors, as well as later ones that have been dated to around seven million years ago – including Sahelanthropus tchadensis, Australopithecus africanus, A. afarensis, Homo erectus, H. habilis and H. ergaster – with the earliest Homo sapiens (human) found in Ethiopia being dated to ca. 200,000 years ago.[3] Africa straddles the equator and encompasses numerous climate areas; it is the only continent to stretch from the northern temperate to southern temperate zones.[4] Because of the lack of natural regular precipitation and irrigation as well as glaciers or mountain aquifer systems, there is no natural moderating effect on the climate except near the coasts.[citation needed] In Roman times, Carthage became the capital of Africa Province, which also included the coastal part of modern Libya. The Roman suffix "-ca" denotes "country or land".[6] The later Muslim kingdom of Ifriqiya, modern-day Tunisia, also preserved a form of the name.

4. New President, Classic Shades: Ray-Bans Return to the White House
November 21, 2008
The message of Barack Obama's successful presidential campaign may have been "Change", but with his no-drama persona and careful wardrobe selections he didn't rock the boat. The classic suits, no-nonsense ties: the liberal looked pretty conservative most of the time. Still, the nation's first African-American president was bound to become a style icon, and he wears the sunglasses favored by dozens of famous icons: Ray-Bans. In most photographs he appears to be wearing Ray-Ban 3217s, a rimless style that isn't among the brand's best-known models.
The most well-known style of Ray-Bans is th... (read more)

November 18, 2008
Lions are amongst the most capable predators of large herbivores. Macropredation in lions is an important issue with ecological bearings. Lions prey upon several big animals.
The first example that comes to mind is that of buffalo. The Cape Buffalo is considered by many to be amongst the most dangerous animals in the African bush and yet lions in many parts of Africa routinely prey upon these one-tonne animals. The modus operandi is to encircle the formidable herd and try and isolate vulnerable individuals. Next the big cats proceed to force their prey into an organized trap laid out for ... (read more)

Of all African masks, those by the Dan people are the most distinguishable and highly sought after, with their minimal but expressively carved features, smooth modulations of facial planes and sleek polished black or dark brown surfaces.
