An aircraft is a vehicle which is able to fly through the Earth's atmosphere or through any other atmosphere. Rocket vehicles are not aircraft if they are not supported by the surrounding air. All the human activity which surrounds aircraft is called aviation. Manned aircraft are flown by a pilot. Until the 1960s, unmanned aircraft were called drones. During the 1960s, the U.S. military brought the term remotely piloted vehicle (RPV) into use. More recently the term unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) has become common. Small hot air balloons called sky lanterns date back to the 3rd century BC and were only the second type of aircraft to fly, the first being kites. Originally a balloon was any aerostat, while the term airship was used for large powered aircraft designs—usually fixed-wing—though none had yet been built. The advent of powered balloons, called dirigible balloons, and later of rigid hulls allowing a great increase in size, began to change the way these words were used. Huge powered aerostats, characterized by a rigid outer framework and separate aerodynamic skin surrounding the gas bags, were produced, the Zeppelins being the largest and most famous. There were still no aeroplanes or non-rigid balloons large enough to be called airships, so "airship" came to be synonymous with these monsters. Then several accidents, such as the Hindenburg disaster in 1937, led to the demise of these airships. Nowadays a "balloon" is an unpowered aerostat, whilst an "airship" is a powered one.

1. Sky Sectionals Profits from Downloadable Niche Product!
November 18, 2008
In the United States there will be 590,349 pilots collectively flying some 28 million hours in 228,000 different aircraft this year alone, according to the U.S. Federal Aviation Administration (FAA). To navigate, those pilots use altimeters, global positioning, and good old-fashioned maps, creating an opportunity for one ecommerce merchant. Eric Boles
Aviation maps or charts are typically four-foot-by-six-foot rectangles that take up a lot room, are hard to manipulate in a tight cockpit, and wear out easily as pilots fold and refold them flight after flight.

3. Aviation - How To Succeed 2
November 17, 2008
Recent History During the 1920s and 1930s, there was a huge leap forward in the field of aviation. Noteworthy milestones included Charles Lindbergh’s transatlantic flight in 1927, and Charles Kingsford Smith’s transpacific flight the following year. Without doubt, the most successful design of this period was the Douglas DC3, which became the first airliner to carry passengers profitably, and ushered in a new era in passenger airline service. By the beginning of the Second World War, many towns and cities had built airports, and there were many eager and qualified pilots available... (read more)

4. Industry is breeding cars for lower insurance premiums!
November 14, 2008
The world of technology is changing fast. When I was young, it was not uncommon for tradespeople to use a horse and cart for local deliveries around town. Now, we have trains that ride on a magnetic field, jet aircraft and hybrid cars. The idea of a hybrid is quite fascinating. As a gardner, to be able to take two different species and create something new with the best qualities of both. As a technologist, to be able to take a conventional internal combustion engine and combine it with electric motors. It’s like a marriage. When the two components work well together, they are strong. If there... (read more)

6. RC Model Airplane - What You Need To Know!
November 11, 2008
When the Wright brothers launched the very first airplane in Kitty Hawk, North Carolina in 1903 they had no idea the pinnacles that the principals of flight would reach. From massive jet liners christened the cruise ships of the skies to crop dusting planes, to high-speed fighter planes the principals that they put into the concept of flight have truly been amazing. Not only did they inspire aircraft designers for passenger planes and helicopters, but enthusiasts for model planes, giving everyone a chance to spread their wings.

We all patiently waited for the arrival of our aircraft, which never arrived. We were sent back to our accommodations and told to return the next day, when hopefully our aircraft would have arrived.
