Alberta ( IPA /æl'b?t?/) is one of Canada's prairie provinces. It became a province on September 1, 1905. Alberta is located in western Canada, bounded by the provinces of British Columbia to the west and Saskatchewan to the east, Northwest Territories to the north, and by the U.S. state of Montana to the south. Alberta is one of three provinces and territories (the others being New Brunswick and Yukon) to border only a single U.S. state. It is also one of two provinces that are land-locked (the other being Saskatchewan). The capital city of Alberta is Edmonton, located just south of the centre of the province. Roughly 300 km south of the capital is Calgary, Alberta's largest city and a major distribution and transportation hub as well as one of Canada's major commerce centers. Edmonton is the primary supply and service hub for Canada's oil sands and other northern resource industries. According to recent population estimates, these two metropolitan areas have now both exceeded 1 million people.[3] Other municipalities in the province include Red Deer, Lethbridge, Medicine Hat, Fort McMurray, Grande Prairie, Camrose, Lloydminster, Brooks, Wetaskiwin, Banff, Cold Lake, and Jasper. Since December 14, 2006, the Premier of the province is Hon. Ed Stelmach, Progressive Conservative.

November 17, 2008
Massage therapy certification and a profession
The identify of massage therapist is frequently broadly applied to a wide variety of massage/spa service providers, however, the term is actually a misnomer, as there is no such single licensed spa professional. In realism, the majority of those performing spa treatments is estheticians and massage therapists, each requiring a separate license.
Many of these service providers are drawn to a career in the massage business by what they perceive as a kinder, gentler vocation. But the fact is that along with the expansion of the massage indu... (read more)

November 17, 2008
Verner, Ontario is in the heart of block heater country. Half an hour west of North Bay, it's also now home to an innovation that has transformed this most Canadian of devices. In the past, people using block heaters to warm their cars' engines would plug them in and let them run. And run. If you were going somewhere the next morning, the heater might only run overnight, but if you weren't going anywhere, or you were keeping the second car warming, it might keep going for days. Meanwhile -- unless you were on the ball enough to plan for a trip and turn on the heater a few hours beforehand... (read more)

8. Are You Afraid Of Making Waves?
September 16, 2008
One of my favourite things is to get away to our beautiful beach house on Vancouver Island. Living in landlocked Alberta, it sure is great to escape to the ocean. And once I’m there one of the fun things to do is to sit on the deck and watch the boats go up and down the Juan de Fuca Strait.
All the fishermen and pleasure cruisers head back at the end of the day and as they pull up to the marina they pass a sign that says Minimize your Wake. Now there’s some logic to not having a fancy boat zip into the harbour at top speed. But it seems to me that many people have taken that marine wi... (read more)

12. Why Martial Artists and Coaches Make the Best Instructors
August 05, 2008
I always hear the argument…you don’t need a black belt to defense yourself (I know, I said it). This is absolutely 100% true. Self Defense is NOT a martial art. But teaching self defense IS.
I’ll explain…
As a martial artist or an athlete you are taught in a systematic fashion. Skills are taught in a progressive manner, each one building on the next. Practice and workouts are designed to develop skill and conditioning along the way. A systematic learning pattern is a huge value and makes all the difference in the level of instruction you receive. People who haven’t spent a long time... (read more)

The decision was praised by lawyers and consumer advocates, but led to warnings from the insurance industry that it would lead to significantly higher premiums.

By William Pehush of The Self Defense Company Described by some as "human cock-fighting," Vale Tudo is Portuguese for anything goes, and in these competitions they mean it. “There I was, in the middle of my fist Black Belt test at the tender age of 22 ready to begin the Random Assault Drill. They were circling me, attackers with knives, bats, clubs and guns, but I was ready. I had been training for years. The panel of sensei watched me, Ross, Cestari, Blandino, Betts, they were all there and I was ready. One by one they attacked and I dispatched them neatly and swiftly. The knife was taken away with ease; the bat was mere child’s play. They were dealt with as fast as they came with no problem- I AM INVINCABLE!!!” ... (read more)
