Golden Rules For New Writers - Things you need to know before you begin. Rules govern everything we do in life; even if those rules are of the unwritten kind we abide by them and expect other people to do the same. Why should writing be any different? It shouldn’t be and it isn’t. The following rules are the basis for good writing. 5. What's Wrong With Proofreading?
February 01, 2005

More Tips For New Writers (Part III) Writing for your home based business just as important as any other kind of business writing. When you have an online business, you will be judged by the quality of your emails, advertisements, articles etc as well as by the textual content of your website. I recently read an article in which the author encouraged people to write articles in order to promote their home based internet business. The writer of this article was of the opinion that punctuation, spelling etc, were not particularly important. His advice was to give your article a quick onc... (read more)

6. The Zoo Keeper And The Monkeys
January 24, 2005

Did you ever watch the Zoo Keeper working in the monkey enclosure? I can recall watching the Zoo Keeper when he was sweeping out the big monkey enclosure. He was industriously sweeping up dead leaves and twigs and the rest of the litter the monkeys had made and he was taking no notice at all of the antics of the noisy crew of monkeys. I guess he was used to their racket. Suddenly one of the monkeys swung down from a branch and snatched the Zoo Keeper’s cap right off his head. The Zoo Keeper hardly had time to react to what had happened before that monkey was out of reach in the higher... (read more)

7. In Your Own Words
January 16, 2005

More Tips For New Writers (Part I) Explain in your own words Familiar phrase? Yes, we have all heard it many times in many different situations. This little phrase is used to convey subtly different meanings depending upon the circumstances in which it is used. At school, the teacher means "Don’t just copy chunks out of a book; show me you can write an essay". In an examination the words mean "Prove that you understand the question and know the answer". On an insurance claim form it means "Tell us what happened from your point of view". From a Judge it means "Tell the truth without... (read more)

8. How To Give Up Insomnia
January 15, 2005

I am writing this on a Sunday morning following a very restless night when sleep just didn’t want to be my friend. I have suffered with insomnia for many years but, by using a combination of techniques, it is more or less under control. Yesterday, I spent much too long working on changes to my website. I was enjoying it, so the time shot by. I ended up sending out for a big Chinese meal late in the evening. A vast quantity of spicy food was washed down with several glasses of wine. If you want to lie awake half the night, just do as I did. The remedy is simple and obvious. Time to ... (read more)

9. Cyber Love At First Sight
January 04, 2005

How I Found My Home Based Business Niche. By: Elaine Currie, BA (Hons) © The Hunting Venus Group I found myself suddenly and unexpectedly unemployed after more than twenty-five years in the same job. Prior to this I had no ambition to own my own business. I had previously had vague thoughts that it would be very nice to be able to work from home, but I never had any idea of what I could actually work at. I have a computer, I am literate and can type at a pretty fast rate. Apart from these, I have no skills which I can see as the basis for a home based business. I like reading and I ... (read more)

10. The Vanishing Mail
December 19, 2004

The Vanishing Mail Am I Just Being Paranoid Or Are The Robots Out To Get Me? It all started in the early part of the twenty-first century. In the early days of email we were thrilled with its speed and reliability, far superior to "snail mail" but there's always somebody who has to go and spoil things for everyone else. In the case of email it was the purveyors of the namesake of a certain pork-based substance. They became such a nuisance that large teams of robots had to be employed to keep them under control. As the porkers got smarter, the robots had to become smarter stil... (read more)

11. Money Doubler Madness
December 02, 2004

After being around in the background for a while, money doublers suddenly became a huge craze on the internet. Forum message boards sported hysterical testimonials like "I Cycled!" and "I Got Paid!" I wonder if they call it a craze because it only crazy people fall for it. Well, I’m certainly not crazy, on the dull side of sensible I’d say if I was pressed on the subject. I am not given to trusting people and you won’t find me accepting a free lunch. So why did I get involved? I put it down to an unattractive little green mean streak of greed. Once that little green fellah gave me ... (read more)
