1. Choosing a Marina for a Motor Boat
September 10, 2008
General Marinas can be found in harbours, ports or on river waterfronts. These marinas can accommodate a variety of boats, including motorboats, sailboats, fishing boats, cruise ships and yachts, as well as the house boat. Some marinas cater to cruise boats on a large scale while others operate on a smaller scale, accommodating motorboats and sailboats. The Reeds Almanac is a good starting point when choosing a marina for a motor boat in the U.K. alternatively listings of marinas near you can also be found in the phone book or online. If you’re already a proud owner of a motor boat then... (read more)

2. Corporate days on the water
September 03, 2008
Sailing is a participant day out where teamwork of the crew is the key of success corporate days out on the water can give some of the best bonding experiences for the staff and clients of a firm. Perhaps the best place to conduct such corporate days is in the centre of UK sailing, the Solent. The Thames sailing barge is one of the most suitable boats available for a day on the Solent. 3. Stag and hen water based events
September 01, 2008
Stag and Hen parties can be very well run on the Solent waters where a number of boats are available for rib and barge charter. A Thames Sailing Barge is one of the largest boats available for a stag or hen event. They are ideal as they have a vast amount of room available being 70 to 120 ft long with a 7ft headroom below. Stag/hen party participants will all be experiencing something original, even the experienced yachtsman will be fascinated by the very different but extremely sophisticated systems required to sail a Thames sailing barge. Anyone considering organising a stag o... (read more)

4. Panama Canal Transit by Sailboat
August 20, 2008
The dinghy pool at the PYC(Panama Yacht Club) contains a variety of underwater obstacles to snag the unwary approaching tender. Most of them are sharp and laying at exactly the right angle to slice through or hook into and tear the millimetres thick rubber of the bottom or sponsons. On their second trip, one such of these catches our not so vigilant crew off guard – fortunately only metres from the dock – a quick glance over the side shows an ever increasing stream of air bubbles under pressure, racing to the surface(quite fascinating in other circumstances!) and a hasty retreat with paddles f... 5. Boat Insurance Tips
August 10, 2008
You might not have thought about it, but boat insurance is probably the oldest kind of insurance there is. The Marine Insurance Act ensures all marine craft like boats are legally obliged to have insurance cover. As with car insurance, policies come with an excess to discourage small claims and for boat insurance, this is usually quite a large sum of money, as the intention of the insurance is to cover you against substantial losses instead of just scratches and dents. There is little difference between the two types of policy except the amount of cover provided with boat insurance is consider... (read more)

6. UK Boat Owners on the Look-Out for Biodiesel
August 01, 2008
As November 1st 2008 approaches and the end to UK Red Diesel derogation, yacht owners are sharing an interest in alternative fuels one being Biodiesel. What are the benefits for boat owners and who will supply it? Biodiesel refers to a non-petroleum-based diesel fuel made vegetable oils or animal fats. There are many advantages of marine biodiesel as a marine fuel Biodiesel serves as a drop-in replacement for petro diesel -- no conversion necessary. Biodiesel when used in boats causes less water pollution – there is less smoke and it is safer to store. Biodiesel production u... (read more)
