It was in 1938 that a Swiss chemist named Albert Hofmann discoverd LSD(Lysergic acid diethylamide). It was originally developed for use as an Analeptic, a respiratory and circulatory stimulant. It was based on another Analeptic called, nikethamide (nicotinic acid diethylamide) already in use. Since LSD was the 25th lysergic acid derivative synthesised, he named it LSD-25. Approximatley five years later, Hofmann decided to test the derivative out once and for all.
