Argentina, officially the Argentine Republic ( Spanish República Argentina, pronounced&_160;[re'pußlika arxen'tina]), is the second largest country in South America, constituted as a federation of 23 provinces and an autonomous city, Buenos Aires. It is the eighth largest country in the world by land area and the largest among Spanish-speaking nations, though Mexico, Colombia and Spain are more populous. Argentina's continental area is between the Andes mountain range in the west and the Atlantic Ocean in the east. It borders Paraguay and Bolivia to the north, Brazil and Uruguay to the northeast, and Chile to the west and south. Argentina claims the British overseas territories of the Falkland Islands and South Georgia and the South Sandwich Islands. It also claims a part of Antarctica, overlapping claims made by Chile and the United Kingdom, though all claims were suspended by the Antarctic Treaty of 1961. Argentina has the second-highest Human Development Index and GDP per capita in purchasing power parity in Latin America. Argentina is one of the G-20 major economies, with the world's 30th largest nominal GDP, and the 23rd largest when purchasing power is taken into account. The country is classified as upper-middle income or a secondary emerging market by the World Bank. The name is derived from the Latin argentum (silver), which comes from the Ancient Greek ?????t?? (argentos), gen. of ????e?? (argeeis), "white, shining".[7] ???e?t???? (argentinos) was an ancient Greek epithet meaning "silvery".[8] The first use of the name Argentina can be traced to the early 16th century voyages of the Spanish and Portuguese conquerors to the Río de la Plata ("Silver River").[citation needed]

Buenos Aires is one of the great cities in the world. Chile is much more laid back, but has countryside and mountainous regions that are simply stunning. Still, the wine productio... (read more)

October 14, 2009
Wine may have been with us for over 8,000 years, but France was the center of all things wine until roughly 40 years ago. France still produces excellent wines, but so do many other locations across the planet. You can experience them by sampling reds and whites from each and comparing the different offerings.
The French know wine and the world acknowledged as much. While you could find wines in other areas like Italy, nobody could challenge the quality of the wine in France. Well, at least that was the prevailing opinion until a certain blind tasting happened. The Judgment in Paris in th... (read more)
