Team DIALOG believes that great interior design should tell a story that draws on the character of the community; and their latest project endorses the belief! ‘Dynamism’ is the magic word of the gen-next! Youngsters today, who constitute the majority of the work force, especially in tech companies, are a bunch of go-getters... in every sense of the term. They almost unintentionally command a flexi-lifestyle and work style that is coherent with their myriad needs, hobbies and mood swings. A scenario that resonates perfectly with tech-giants like Google, Microsoft, and Hootsuite designing offices to entice top tech- savvy professionals has given rise to a trend for vibrant and dynamic work environments that place the employee at the centre. Keeping pace with the trend to attract top talent and still not break the bank is an art that Vancouver interior design team DIALOG recently stepped up to, to transform the new office of Railtown’s newest up-and-coming tech firm, STAT Search Analytics in Canada. Reflecting the vision and work culture of the company that is growing by leaps since its inception six years ago, the designers zeroed in on the contextual flavour of the industrial double-height space of the existing structure to create a raw, pulsating youthful ambience. Non-corporate in its make-up, the space becomes the sole design differentiator as distinct volumes are carved out from STAT’s polygon-based brand graphics, which symbolize a network of ordered information with nodes and points of discovery. Each of these volumes constitute the meeting rooms constructed out of clear finished plywood to match the millwork and keep costs down. Adding character, are bespoke works of art by Vancouver artist Lucien Durey, who referenced historical images sourced from the surrounding East-side neighbourhood to lend associated appeal. So one can find quiet spaces to work or flock together for informal meetings. Added to this is the go-to area of 2000 sq. ft. on the second floor mezzanine, where a communal social space and eatery is fully kitted out with beer and wine taps along with flexible furniture and technology screens to aid employees ideate, work and play at a flexi-pace crucial to creativity and consequent productivity.
