Everything You Wanted To Know About Forearm Tattoos But Were Afraid To Ask

Art and Culture,Advice,Fashion & Cosmetics
For those of you who have tattoos, did you ever find yourself wanting to ask your tattoo artist questions that, for some reason or another, you just couldn’t quite make happen? As it turns out, many custom ink collectors have noted that they’ve always wanted to ask about forearm tattoos but chickened out at the last-minute. Most couldn’t say whether it was nerves or if they just forgot, but forearm ink was at the top of the curiosity list.

But why forearm tattoos?

If you’re one of the many folks who’ve had some questions about forearm tattoos, here’s a look at some of the more significant answers:

Attention — Your arms are a prominent part of your body, and depending on your daily activities, you’re likely using your arms quite a bit. This means that you’ll have plenty of chances to show-off your righteous ink. That is, of course, there aren’t policies in place that do not allow body art in the workplace.

Covering Up — Some customers have their artwork stop before the edge of a shirt cuff so that they know they can cover-up any semblance of their tattoo. This seems like quite the pro, but consider dealing with temperature changes, business/casual settings, and other quirky parts of the working world. All of a sudden, a forearm tattoo feels like a con.

Pain — Does it hurt? Yes. Does everyone experience pain? No. Is everyone’s experience different? Yes, which means the previous two questions and answers are meaningless. The best-case scenario is that you’re able to handle the pain that can be associated with a tattoo. Certain areas of your arm such as your wrist and inner elbow may be much more sensitive, so beware.

Weight — No one mentions this much, but when you get a tattoo or piercing, you’re essentially taking a snapshot of yourself in a particular physical state. Do you plan on changing this by way of weight gain or loss? Depending on how much your weight may shift, your once perfect ink may really be worse for wear.

Aftercare — Perhaps the once place where many newly tattooed folks fail is not following the artist’s directions for aftercare. Forearms are tough to care for because they are a pivotal part of how you clean the rest of your body, which means you’re exposing your ink to a lot of water and soap. You have to be careful with exposure to the sun. Also, depending on the size and complexity of your work, healing time can be a long haul.

Forearm tattoos are pretty popular, and if you’re committed to getting your forearms graced by some killer custom ink, it’s important that you think about the pros and cons that come with that decision. There really is no right or wrong decision, but be an active partner in your tattoo journey. Get a grasp of what you have to look forward to, and if you think that you’re still 100% down to making your forearms seriously rock, take the time to find the right artist that can give you the results you want.
