Bernardo Álvarez Herrera (born
Carora,
Lara State,
August 18, 1956) is the current
Venezuelan ambassador to the
United States.
In September 2008, Herrera was withdrawn from the US after Venezuelan president
Hugo Chavez accused his American counterpart of conspiring to overthrow his regime and ordered him to leave the country. The next month Venezuelan consular officials in
Houston were "invited to depart the United States" by the
State Department, after a dispute related to an unauthorized relocation of the consul's office.
