Auto Bild: BMW, M-B Considering Partnership July 06, 2007 Auto Bild, a German motor magazine, reported that BMW, the largest premium carmaker in the world, and its closest competitor, Mercedes-Benz, are in negotiations over a partnership in order to build subcompact cars. 7. 2 German Soldiers Suspended Over Photos Involving Human Skulls in Afghanistan October 27, 2006 German military authorities have suspended two soldiers in connection with a series of disturbing photos showing servicemen posing with human skulls in Afghanistan. Defense Minister Josef Jung announced the suspensions Friday in Berlin. The scandal broke Wednesday when the newspaper Bild printed several pictures reportedly taken in 2003, including one of a German soldier posing with a skull in a sexual manner. German Paper Publishes Photos of Troops Posing with Skull in Afghanistan October 25, 2006 Germany's defense ministry says it is investigating photos published by a popular newspaper that appear to show German troops in Afghanistan posing with a skull. The daily Bild newspaper says the pictures were taken near Afghanistan's capital, Kabul, in 2003. The paper says it does not know where the soldiers obtained the skull or how old it was. Klinsmann Plans Not to Attend 'Order of Merit' Ceremony July 18, 2006 Germany's former national football coach, Juergen Klinsman, has told a German newspaper that he will not attend a ceremony at which he was to receive the German Order of Merit from President Horst Kohler. Klinsman, 41, resigned last week, saying he was "burned out" after leading the host-German team to a surprising third-place finish at the World Cup earlier this month.  He told Tuesday's Bild newspaper that he feels honored but that he will not attend the August 14 ceremony in Berlin because he needs six months away from football. Bush: World Should Take Iran's Threat's Seriously May 07, 2006 President Bush says the international community should take seriously Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad's threats concerning Israel and Tehran's nuclear program. Germany's Merkel Calls for Release of Iraq Hostage December 04, 2005 German Chancellor Angela Merkel has called on the kidnappers of a German woman taken hostage in Iraq to release her immediately. Ms. Merkel told the Bild am Sonntag newspaper the government is doing all it can to rescue Susanne Osthoff and her Iraqi driver, who disappeared nine days ago, on November 25. The kidnappers said they would kill the woman if Germany does not end all support for the Iraqi government. Ferrari Denies Report it Will Not Renew F1 Contract for Schumacher August 25, 2005 The Ferrari Formula One team is denying German news reports that it would not renew the contract of seven-time driving champion Michael Schumacher and would replace him with Finland's Kimi Raikkonen. The Bild newspaper reported earlier this week that Schumacher would leave Ferrari for McLaren-Mercedes when his contract expires at the end of next season.
