Capitalism
There is no consensus on capitalism nor how it should be used as an analytical category.[1] There are a variety of historical cases over which it is applied, varying in time, geography, politics and culture.[2] Economists, political economists and historians have taken different perspectives on the analysis of capitalism. scholars in the social sciences, including historians, economic sociologists, economists, anthropologists and philosophers have debated over how to define capitalism, however there is little controversy that private ownership of the means of production, creation of goods or services for profit in a market, and prices and wages are elements of capitalism.[3] Economists usually put emphasis on the market mechanism, degree of government control over markets (laissez faire), and property rights[4][5], while most political economists emphasize private property, power relations, wage labor, and class.[6] There is a general agreement that capitalism encourages economic growth.[7] The extent to which different markets are "free", as well as the rules determining what may and may not be private property, is a matter of politics and policy and many states have what are termed "mixed economies."[6] Capitalism as a system developed incrementally from the 16th century in Europe, although capitalist-like organizations existed in the ancient world, and early aspects of merchant capitalism flourished during the Late Middle Ages.[8][9][10] Capitalism became dominant in the Western world following the demise of feudalism.[10] Capitalism gradually spread throughout Europe, and in the 19th and 20th centuries, it provided the main means of industrialization throughout much of the world.[2]

1. Free market capitalism for our economic, problems is accusing a ghost.
November 12, 2009
Everywhere I turn, I see, read and hear how capitalism has destroyed the American economy. The political Left blames capitalism outright, while the political Right claims capitalism is the American ideal. The elitists in banking, government, academia and the media give lip service to the idea of a free market, when they, in fact, have no use for it. The real purpose of claiming that free markets are the American ideal is to give the collectivist a scapegoat to blame for all their nefarious wealth redistribution programs. Too many of today activists have fallen for this intentional misdirection... (read more)

2. What Happened To Alan Greenspan After
November 10, 2009
While at the book store looking through some books about gold and the economy (I can't really remember which book it was), it mentioned Alan Greespan's essay "Gold and Economic Freedom." I had read about it several times and heard Ron Paul mention it, so I thought I should read it. I found it in Ayn Rand's CAPTIALISM: The Unknown Ideal. I am new to economics but have been reading as much as I can from The Ludwig von Mises Institute and Lewrockwell.com. Still, I have to say it was an extraordinary essay for me. Based on what little I know, all I can say is, WHAT HAPPENED TO GREENSPA... (read more)

October 29, 2009
Most people around the world today aren’t aware of how we’ve all unwittingly become casualties of what has been described as “decadent capitalism”. 7. A review of the movie Capitalism: A Love Story
October 19, 2009
This movie brings about a general knock on the capitalistic approach and this is not out of tune with Mr. Moore’s previous movies. Partly, there is a general sense that the major financial giants have raided the general public for another round of super bonuses and more money to slush around with. Giant financials seemed to pull the strings endlessly, filling their coffers again with taxpayer money. In the context of the broad base of taxpayers, mostly lugging away at relatively lower paying jobs, this is not of out context with reality. As usual Mr. Moore sometime... (read more)

8. What Makes A Leader?
October 19, 2009
My apologies to Earl Nightengale for using his profound insight and rhetorical skills to express my thoughts, but why reinvent the wheel.
We who desire to accumulate riches, should remember the real leaders of the world always have been men and women who harnessed, and put into practical use, the intangible, unseen forces of unborn opportunity, and have converted those forces, (or impulses of thought), into sky-scrapers, cities, factories, airplanes, automobiles, and every form of convenience that makes life more pleasant, defining a true entrepreneur.
Entrepreneurship is collectiv... (read more)

9. Northern European painting of the 15th-16th centuries
October 16, 2009
The 15th and 16th centuries saw the rise of capitalism and a growing middle class, the creation of modern nation states, and the upheaval of the Protestant Reformation. For artists, an innovation of evenly far-reaching importance was the perfection of oil paints in the Low Countries, which allowed northern painters to depict the world with unprecedented precision.
At the end of the middle Ages, some of the liveliest centers of painting were in the Netherlands, also known as the Low Countries, an area comprising present-day Holland, Belgium, Luxembourg, and part of France. Artists here riv... (read more)

11. Michael Moore's "Capitalism: A Love Story" Hits the Screen
October 03, 2009
Michael Moore in a scene from his new movie, "Capitalism, A Love Story"In his new documentary "Capitalism: A Love Story," Director Michael Moore turns his lens on one of the most contentious subjects in America today: the economic crisis. Mixing scathing satire with human drama, Moore talks about the housing collapse, the credit crunch, the Wall Street shakeup and the U.S. government's $750 billion bank bailout. In "Capitalism: A Love Story," Michael Moore says unfettered greed plunged middle America into the deepest financial crisis since the Great Depression. In his usual theatrical style, M... (read more)

12. Why Obama Needs Single Moms Back in School
October 01, 2009
The basis of capitalism in our society is dependent upon the creation of new jobs. The jobs are taken over by qualified people who will provide for their families and also taxes that make our government and country function. Without new jobs, our country will fail. This is why President Obama has chosen to allocate billions of dollars for single mothers so that they can become a productive part of the new and emerging workforce.
Too many people are without employment in our current recessional economy. Most of us are looking for a way to pay for our mortgage or put food on the table. Most... (read more)

13. If Obama Really Cared What Would He Be Doing?
September 24, 2009
Unemployment Insurance – He would be increasing benefits to 50% of gross pay for two years instead of bailing out companies.
Social Security – Raise the benefits by about 50%.
Wars – He would be pulling out of Iraq and Afghanistan. He promised to do so and instead is committing more troops.
Military – He would be downsizing the military. Why does he need 13 aircraft carrier groups?
Patriot Act – He would be canceling this. Instead of dropping certain parts of it like he promised, he is extending some provisions of the Patriot act.
Banking – Why bail out the banks and t... (read more)

14. Swiss Bank UBS Sued by 500 Americans
September 24, 2009
Executive Summary – The Swiss Bank UBS is being sued by at least 500 of their American clients for releasing information to the USA. The clients feel betrayed and are suing. The Swiss have had to add on 5 judges for a two year posting to hear the excess of cases they just got hit with. More cases should be coming in I would think.
As a result of the Swiss economy is getting hit hard. Personal bankruptcies are expected to hit 6,000 this year. Business bankruptcies this year will hit 5,000 for the first time. What I say is: What about the people who trusted them with their life savings that... (read more)

15. Drug Legalization Marches in Latin America
September 21, 2009
Executive Summary – The drug laws are not working. Everyone knows this. Eighty percent of the people in the massive USA prison system are locked up for drugs or drug related reasons. If the other countries legalize drugs, drop the victimless crime of money laundering (almost always tied to drugs so if drugs legal, then the money is not implicated in money laundering as fruits of a crime) then certain one world order governments will have nothing to bother foreign governments about.
The USA and UK being world visionaries (sic) have thus got the OECD to get all these tax information sharing... (read more)

16. 45% of US Doctors Consider Quitting if Health Care Overhauled
September 21, 2009
Executive Summary – The doctors do not want to work for low wages under the new health care reform. Many of them, almost half said they would consider quitting the practice of medicine. We would expect many of them to leave the USA for greener pastures. In other countries doctors do not have to fear malpractice lawsuits and government investigations. The money would be less but the cost of living is lower and the quality of life is higher. This would result in a doctor drain. Also the highly trained health care workers that are not doctors would leave for greener pastures. So then USA opens th... (read more)

17. Panama Banks Refuse New Accounts to Americans
September 21, 2009
Executive Summary – Reports are coming in that some of the Panama Banks are refusing to open any sort of bank account for Americans. This is no surprise. That is how Switzerland started out and then they were turning over account information on thousands of Americans having bank accounts there. We expect to see the banks will soon start telling the Americans with accounts in Panama to sign waivers of bank secrecy and file W-9 forms to the IRS reporting the accounts to the IRS. If the Americans fail to execute this paperwork then the bank account gets closed in 30 days. This is what the Swiss d... (read more)

18. Offshore Lawyer vs. Onshore Lawyer
September 21, 2009
Conflict of Interest Introduction - When setting up an offshore asset protection structure you should be using an offshore lawyer not a lawyer in your home country (onshore attorney). There are a number of reasons for this but one of the biggest reasons is there is a conflict of interest with an onshore law firm in your own country. If you have financial enemies and they attempt to go after your funds only to find out that you have relocated your assets offshore with the assistance of this lawyer or law firm a number of things could happen to your onshore lawyer that would not be good for that... 21. Panama Law Against Short Term Rentals
September 18, 2009
Executive Summary – The Panama Government has pass a new law, Resolution 52 dated August 13, 2009 and published it. This law makes it a crime to rent out your apartment for less than one year. One would think this is unconstitutional, but hey this is Panama.
Why Such a Law – This law was passed to help the hotel industry suffering from occupancy rates of about 35% (estimated only), but in any event low. There were a lot of speculative condo sales in Panama in last few years. Some of these condos were even set up as pseudo hotels for rental having hotel type services in them. They were not... Genetically Modified Organisms (GMOs) are making their way into the forefront of our meals. So, why should you care? The commercial said the golden rice could save the children of developing countries from blindness and death. Syngenta also owns a patent on Golden Rice , their press release claimed one month of a delay in marketing Golden Rice would cause 50,000 children to go blind... (read more)

September 18, 2009
Overview: Kidnapping, ransom, and extortion are all very real crimes and the number of incidents is growing each year. Companies, company employees, individuals and their families, and tourists are at risk. This risk is prevalent in the country in which the individual (or employee /family/company) is domiciled and in the countries in which they travel.
Only a fraction of all kidnappings that are threatened, attempted, or unsuccessful are ever reported, though these are common occurrences. Threats against children and family are often used and carried out, effectively extorting the victim.... (read more)
