Maybe yes (hypothetically) and definitely no. Yes (hypothetically) in the sense that perhaps the field may not expand sufficiently enough to be able to accommodate everyone in the future. No in the sense that when training to become a data scientist one learns all sorts of skills, such as problem solving approaches and such skills are transferable and could be used or be important in other areas. Hence, if anyone studying data science or machine learning for instance doesn’t get a specific job within data science (as in the job title) there will be ways to apply that knowledge and skills to other or existing jobs. So in a nutshell being competent in analysis and statistics and understanding testing (the way of thinking more then the actual tests) will be of great value across the board. Essentially such general skills have applications beyond a single field..
