Carolyn McCall (born 1961 or 1962
[1]) is Chief Executive of
Guardian Media Group, a prominent
company of the
United Kingdom and parent organisation of
The Guardian newspaper and other media outlets. Previously she was CEO of Guardian Newspapers Ltd (now Guardian News & Media Ltd) and is chair of the
Business in the Community project Opportunity Now.
[2]. On 10 April 2008, it was reported in the
Guardian that McCall resigned as non-executive director of
Tesco after the latter company sued the Guardian for libel.
[3]In the past she worked for New Look plc as a Non-Executive Director. She has also acted as President of Women in Advertising and Communications London.
Management Today magazine called her "One of the toughest operators to have risen through the Guardian Media Group's ranks".[4] She holds a BA degree in history and politics, and a Master’s in politics. She is married with three children.
She is said to prefer a "pragmatic approach to Human Resources rather than politically correct niceties".[5]
