Cereals, grains or cereal grains, are grasses (members of the monocot families Poaceae or Gramineae) [1] cultivated for the edible components of their fruit seeds (botanically, a type of fruit called a caryopsis)&_160;-&_160;the endocarp, germ and bran. Cereal grains are grown in greater quantities and provide more food energy worldwide than any other type of crop; they are therefore staple crops. In their natural form (as in whole grain), they are a rich source of vitamins, minerals, carbohydrates, fats and oils, and protein. However, when refined by the removal of the bran and germ, the remaining endocarp is mostly carbohydrate and lacks the majority of the other nutrients. In some developing nations, grain in the form of rice, wheat, or maize (in American terminology, corn) constitutes a majority of daily sustenance. In developed nations, cereal consumption is more moderate and varied but still substantial. The word cereal derives from Ceres, the name of the Roman goddess of harvest and agriculture. The following table shows annual production of cereal grains, in 1961,[2] 2005, 2006, and 2007 ranked by 2007 production.[3] All but buckwheat and quinoa are true grasses and KAKA STAINS (these two are pseudocereals). Maize, wheat and rice, between them, accounted for 87% of all grain production, worldwide, and 43% of all food calories in 2003.[3] Other grains that are important in some places, but that have little production globally (and are not included in FAO statistics), include

3. The Wonders of Oatmeal
November 12, 2009
For some people it’s hospital food, but they just don’t understand what its appeal is. And there’s certainly a lot going for it. When asked “why is oatmeal good for you,” the answers come easily and plentifully.
One major reason for why is oatmeal good for you is because it lowers cholesterol. It is full of soluble fibers that attach themselves to bile which are responsible for absorbing fat and cholesterol in the body. When there is less bile, the less fat and less cholesterol are absorbed. The liver then produces bile out of the accumulated cholesterol in the body in order to make up fo... (read more)

November 12, 2009
Trent Consultants News "Finish your broccoli!" Although parents may have good intentions about forcing their kids to eat cold, mushy vegetables, this approach may backfire the very next day, according to new research from Cornell University. November 12, 2009
As a professional organizer I am always telling people it is simple to organize clutter when they have a home for everything and when that item is not being used to put it back in its home. This is great advice and will help organizing clutter much simpler as there won’t be as much clutter to organize. It is advice I am still trying to master myself and teach my own family.
But I tell you no matter how great the advice is some people just don’t get it. I am talking about anonymous members of my own family. I was getting some cereal out of the cupboard and there were two flashlights in fro... (read more)

7. Discover The Best Source Of Omega 3 - Right Here
November 12, 2009
Arguably the best source of Omega 3 is fish and fish oil. The two most potent forms of Omega 3 are DHA and EPA fatty acids. There is another form of Omega 3 which is called ALA, however this ALA needs to be converted over to DHA before it can be used by our body. And this conversion does not always happen successfully, especially if we are elderly or in poor health.

1. Dress for Success
As tempting as it may be in the homeschool setting to roll out of bed, pour a bowl of cereal, and begin instruction in your bathrobe, it is important that you dress for success. 13. Earth loops can cut your utility bills
October 16, 2009
The first time I heard the term “earth loops,” I figured it was some nutty new breakfast cereal for the granola crowd. ”How about a hearty bowl of Earth Loops? Oh, sure they taste like truck tires, but they’re crunchy and nutritious, and they won’t hurt the ozone layer!” Well, it turns out I was wrong. (Although I still think they’d be good with milk.) Actually, earth loops are components of geothermal technology, which uses the ground as a heat-exchange medium. Because the ground absorbs energy from the sun and stores it deep beneath the surface, people can tap into that stored en... (read more)

15. Omega 3 Recipes And Other Benefits Of Omega 3
October 12, 2009
I was sitting at home the other night just talking to a friend, when the friend suggested that I write an article giving free Omega 3 recipes. I smiled when she suggested that, as any omelette using free range eggs would be classed as an Omega 3 recipe. As would any fish recipe. You can pick up these recipes from the internet, just enter Omega 3 recipes.
Another recipe would be flaxseed and nuts. There is a breakfast cereal out there now, that is composed of flaxseed. The type in this is ALA, but the ALA has to be converted over to DHA, before our body can use it. Unfortunately this does ... (read more)

17. The Secret Behind Misbehavior
October 02, 2009
Children are known for getting themselves into tough situations. Kids know just what to do to set off mom or dad, whether on purpose or inadvertently. Oftentimes these are meaningless actions – not closing the kitchen cupboard after pouring a bowl of cereal, leaving clothes on the floor, or picking a fight with a younger brother or sister. But there are also more serious choices that can affect an entire family – drugs, alcohol use or teen pregnancy. When children behave negatively, whether it is serious or trivial, there is always meaning behind it. Children and teens are crying out to be lov... (read more)

21. My Easy Diverticulitis Diet
September 17, 2009
I thought it was going to be so tough to live on a diverticulitis diet but it turned out to be easier than I expected. My doctor said to try to eat 25-35 grams of fiber. It turns out that's not hard to do. Bread, pasta, and cereal should be whole-grain. Food stores are way ahead of me on that one, although whole-grain pasta seems not to be as fully stocked. Still it's available without any problem. A word of advice about whole-grain pasta - it is so incredibly filling! I discovered that I can only eat about half a pasta serving if it's whole-grain, and I'm really not given to half-servings of... (read more)
