Communism is a socioeconomic structure and political ideology that promotes the establishment of an egalitarian, classless, stateless society based on common ownership and control of the means of production and property in general. [1][2][3] Karl Marx posited that communism would be the final stage in human society, which would be achieved through a proletarian revolution and only becoming possible only after a socialist stage develops the productive forces, leading to a superabundance of goods and services. [4][5]. "Pure communism" in the Marxian sense refers to a classless, stateless and oppression-free society where decisions on what to produce and what policies to pursue are made democratically, allowing every member of society to participate in the decision-making process in both the political and economic spheres of life. In modern usage, communism is often used to refer to Bolshevism or Marxism-Leninism and the policies of the various communist states which had government ownership of all the means of production and centrally planned economies. Communist regimes have historically been authoritarian, repressive, and coercive governments concerned primarily with preserving their own power. [3]As a political ideology, communism is usually considered to be a branch of socialism; a broad group of economic and political philosophies that draw on the various political and intellectual movements with origins in the work of theorists of the Industrial Revolution and the French Revolution.[6] Communism attempts to offer an alternative to the problems with the capitalist market economy and the legacy of imperialism and nationalism. Marx states that the only way to solve these problems is for the working class (proletariat), who according to Marx are the main producers of wealth in society and are exploited by the Capitalist-class (bourgeoisie), to replace the bourgeoisie as the ruling class in order to establish a free society, without class or racial divisions.[2] The dominant forms of communism, such as Leninism, Stalinism, Maoism and Trotskyism are based on Marxism, but non-Marxist versions of communism (such as Christian communism and anarcho-communism) also exist. Karl Marx never provided a detailed description as to how communism would function as an economic system, but it is understood that a communist economy would consist of common ownership of the means of production, culminating in the negation of the concept of private ownership of capital, which referred to the means of production in Marxian terminology. In the schema of historical materialism, communism is the idea of a free society with no division or alienation, where mankind is free from oppression and scarcity. A communist society would have no governments, countries, or class divisions. In Marxist theory, the dictatorship of the proletariat is the intermediate system between capitalism and communism, when the government is in the process of changing the means of ownership from privatism, to collective ownership.[7] In political science, the term "communism" is sometimes used to refer to communist states, a form of government in which the state operates under a one-party system and declares allegiance to Marxism-Leninism or a derivative thereof.

November 04, 2009
A red banner with hammer and sickle is seen outside the Polish Embassy in Moscow (File)The symbol of Communism - the hammer and sickle - represents the main tools of physical labor used by industrial and agricultural workers. But the collapse of the Iron Curtain 20 years ago coincided with a decline in heavy industry and the rise of the Internet and knowledge-based companies. The Gdansk Shipyard, birthplace of the Solidarity Trade Union that led the struggle against Communism in Poland, was a place where thousands of workers could expect a lifetime of employment under the old state-supp... 3. Hungarians Commemorate 20th Anniversary Of End of Communism
October 24, 2009
Hungary is commemorating its crushed 1956 Revolution against Soviet domination and the 20th anniversary of its declaration as a republic and the end of communism. The ceremonies come however as opinion polls show a growing number of Hungarians are dissatisfied with the political changes that have occurred since then. The Hungarian flag was raised and the Hungarian national anthem played on a rainy autumn Friday morning, as Hungarians observed two major historical events. The ceremony in front of Hungary's Gothic parliament building commemorated the failed revolution against Soviet domination, w... 4. Is Communism Dead Yet?
October 02, 2009
There are a handful of countries that are still considered communist regimes. Yet communism doesn't really exist. These countries are more like dictatorships with authoritarian type leaders who operate under the very thin veil of non-existent communism.
These groups or individual leaders that have near absolute power cause great harm to their country's populace on a continual basis.
Do you think there will be people who rejoice the day that Castro is gone or the Chinese Communist Party finally collapses? I think it is likely that there will be millions upon millions who will celebrat... (read more)

5. The Demoblican Party: Stop Feeding The Two-Headed Beast
September 24, 2009
A little more than a year ago, I became a member of the Libertarian Party. I had been a life long Republican. In college, after doing research, I was so disgusted with the Democratic Party's hypocrisy regarding the Vietnamese, Cambodians, and Laotians and their suffering under Communism that I could never see myself voting for a Democrat. I believed that they did not sufficiently love freedom to support them. They were too willing to compromise with Communism. And so, not once in my voting life did I vote for a Democrat. I considered myself a conservative, though I never believed in censo... (read more)

10. Linux, Libertarianism and America
June 14, 2009
Roughly ten years ago I obtained and installed my first copy of Red Hat Fedora Linux. It was during that same time-frame that I officially became a Libertarian. Since then I have read many opinion pieces comparing Linux to both Libertarianism and Communism. In a way, I think it is both.
First let’s consider the origins of Linux. Back in the early 1980’s a long-time Unix programmer named Richard Stallman left MIT and began the GNU project and later the Free Software Foundation. He and his team began compiling (pun intended) the various software components of an operating system. The impetu... (read more)

11. Capitalism: The Unknown Ideal
April 22, 2009
Capitalism. The belief, the practice, and the philosophy that man should be accountable to no one but himself. That man should determine his own fortune, and bare the blame or blessings that follow. It is a much maligned philosophy only because the men who oppose it have one of two agenda's. 1) To Rule over their fellow men. 2) To avoid the consequences of their own poor choices, doing so by robbing their neighbors who were not so flippant in their duties. This article's intent is to Reintroduce you to that unknown Ideal: Capitalism. Why Unknown? Because a purely Capitalist societ... (read more)

Mentioned the first time in the middle of the 15th century, during the reign of Vlad Tepes, better known as Dracula, Bucharest has seen a big increase in size and reputation until the 20th century, thus becoming a regional Capital and a cosmopolitan city and a sharp decline during communism. Bucharest was alternating with Curtea de Arges (the second Capital of Valahia, today Southern Romania, after Câmpulung) and Târgoviste during the second half of the 16th century and the first half of the 17th century as the Capital City of Valahia. The Meaning of Social Justice
By Punkerslut January, 2009
The Origins of Society
"...the lower classes of the people... [are] by far the most numerous in all countries and in all ages..."
-- James Steuart, 1767 [*1]
Every society is founded on a common principle. A group of people is more capable of producing more together than each person would be individually. Industrialized production and specialized labor are some examples of how the group size contributes to a larger per-person output of the social product. In this organization, the worker's ability to labor ... (read more)

15. The Only Song to be Investigated by the FBI?

The USA was a strange place in the late 1950s and early 1960s. Youth culture was in its infancy and the establishment was disturbed at is growth. The establishment was disturbed by many things. There was fear at the growth of communist influence in Cuba and Latin America. There was fear of a perceived increasing threat from communism at home. Homophobia was rife. Institutionalised racism was being challenged. Rock and roll was threatening the morals of the young and Louie Louie was at the forefront of the threat, or not. Russian Holidays
I loved living in Russia and the primary reason was people. Russians love to celebrate and they are big into holidays. In Chita, Siberia, practically everyday was a holiday. During communism, Russia celebrated the worker with holidays such as bus driver day, teacher day and so on. 19. Protesters
April 14, 2008
A sharp closing of the door left the two men together yet alone, strangers, introduced merely seconds before. The older, taller of the two seemed to scrutinise the stockier new arrival for a few moments, his penetrating gaze noting the military dress that remained less than a uniform alongside the almost apologetic manner he projected. They had fallen silent after their mutual acknowledgement, the elderly man’s gripped handshake accompanied by a stentorian, lengthened “Hello”, the younger man’s hesitant nod, plus a hand quickly withdrawn. 20. The Real Deal About Insurance
April 14, 2008
Do you really understand what insurance is? The common perception is that insurance is something you are either forced to have or you take to hedge your losses. Therefore most people obtain insurance begrudgingly. They feel like they haven't gotten their monies worth unless their company pays them something back.
