“I am Asura, I personify Genius”. The Asura are the smartest people in Tryria, they were driven to the surface by the Great Destroyer, Primordus. These snarky little geniuses excelled in golems, arcane and mystic technology asserting supremacy and respect from other races. “We will not move another age; not for dragon, not for anyone”. ArenaNet stepped up to the challenge in creating an equally intelligent and artistic cinematic intro as the race - the Asura. ArenaNet has never failed even in the tiniest details in every aspect of the game. And of course the Cinematic intro is not an exception. Well, it’s always cool to showcase strength and might or flashy skills but it’s somewhat difficult to portray intelligence. According to Ree Soesbee of ArenaNet, “Opening cinematics are designed to educate a player as to the world background, the racial background, and the impact of the choices they made for their character. But, packed in amid all that lore is the hope that the cinematic will be inspiring. In an ideal world, we want the player to be so busy yelling “AWESOME!” at the end of the cinematic that it takes them a minute to find their keyboard and mouse again”. On the other hand, Guild Wars 2 videos have not yet failed me to yell that is so awesome! Now I’m having sleepless nights of excitement anxiety, let me play your AWESOME game! Please excuse me, people get carried away sometimes. The striking imagery in the video makes you feel that sense of connection into that character. It makes you want to play them, get to know them and create a new story portraying you as Asura. Imagine all this feelings, inspiration and desire compressed in a minute and seven seconds cinematic video. The idea might just blow you away and urges you to get on the game as soon as you can and start out as Asura. As I mentioned, it’s easier to showcase strength, how about intelligence? How would a life of intellectual pursuit look like? How would you imagine leading a life in a marvelous culture guided by high minded philosophy? Without much further ado, I introduce you, the Asura. Enjoy!
