The most frequent standard of weight loss is that accompanying a diet plan must be an exercise routine for weight loss. When most people think of exercise, what comes to mind is an expensive gym membership and fancy sneakers. But that picture is overstated. In fact, expensive memberships and clothing are not needed. There are any number of exercise activity that will support your efforts to lose weight. |
Exercise for Weight Loss: The One Mile Rule The one-mile rule is simple if you have errands to run within a one-mile radius of your home, WALK. Leave the car at home and walk.
"But, Sara, what about taking baby steps? I mean a mile is a long way." Whenever I make the One Mile suggestion this is the standard question. Look, you don't have to start out doing more than you can. When first starting this exercise routine, set your sights a bit lower. Then add more to the mix.
I tell my clients to start with a quarter-mile radius. After a month of following the rule add another quarter of a mile. Now you are walking a half-mile. Add two more times and you'll hit the mile mark. Of course, this is actually two-miles of walking because you have a two-way trip.
Exercise for Weight Loss: Walk the Mall Whenever you go to the mall or to a big box store you have a perfect opportunity to walk. At the mall, walk the exterior of all the stores before you even begin shopping. Then do your shopping.
At a big box store, walk every aisle in the store before you put anything in your shopping cart. Walmart, Sam's Club, Costco, the grocery store all offer opportunities to walk.
Exercise for Weight Loss: The 20-Minute Walk After every meal, walk for twenty minutes. Walk around the block, take in the sights. But limit your walk to no more than 20-minutes.
Three meals a day and you have effortlessly added one-hour to your daily routine.
Exercise for Weight Loss: Final Thoughts Clearly, each of these exercise suggestions involves walking. You don't need an expensive gym membership or fancy workout clothes. Leave your Nike shoes at home because you can walk in any old shoe you own.
Walking is a robust way to add exercise to your daily routine.
