51. Why people are so addicted to reading YouTube comments
April 30, 2021

One thing that’s great about the Internet is that it allows the most weird and humorous people to anonymously express themselves. And one of the most common places to do that is the YouTube comments section. Oftentimes I catch myself skimming through the comments before I even start watching the actual video. I remember coming across one of those public child-shaming videos. In the video, the mother was asking her teenage son to help her with something. To which the boy responded, “Not now. I’m busy reading YouTube comments.” Of course, like all public child-shaming videos endin... (read more)

52. A powerful tool that'll help you write thousands of words worth of content in just minutes
April 25, 2021

Recently, I’ve been seeing people promote a new AI writing software on the copywriting block. I’m seeing it everywhere on Facebook, YouTube, and in my email inboxes. When I saw it in action, man, was I impressed. At the speed that it operates, you can write three or four long articles in a day. Someone even wrote and published an entire book in just one week. Heck, I can use it to write my emails in under two minutes. I admit it, it’s a powerful tool and has the potential to wipe out those who create content as a living, but not completely. After reflecting, a few... (read more)

53. I want to shake the hand of the copywriter behind this company's ads
April 13, 2021

One thing I miss about taking public transportation is the ads I see. One of my all-time favorites? The Oatly oat milk ads. They’re so simple, so consistent, and so humorous that makes them so memorable. I’ve seen ads that said: “You actually read this? Total success.” “Oatmilk ads in trains that give you something to read so you don’t have to make unnecessary eye contact with complete strangers are so convenient.” “We spent an insane amount of money on this fancy billboard. Hope someone interested in oat drink sees it.” I’m sure they run a serious busin... (read more)

54. Easy come, easy go
March 31, 2021

By now, you’ve probably realized how different people treat their money differently. I’ve known people who have no problem spending money. They were willing to spend over $1,000 dollars partying and drinking. They have no problem spending hundreds of dollars impulse buying new stuff that they’d probably stop using after a few weeks. On the other hand, I’ve also known people who are extremely stingy. They’re not at Mr. Krabs’ level of stinginess, but they’d take any opportunity they can get to save money. But the problem with that is, it comes with an arguably greater cost. ... (read more)

55. A client story
March 26, 2021

Here’s a little inside look into one of my client projects. There’s a founder of a Texas-based startup marketing agency who wanted to work with me. He didn’t need help with any email copywriting though. Instead, he needed someone to help him write up some case studies of some projects he did with his clients. I told him upfront that writing case studies is not something I’m familiar with, but that didn’t change his mind about working with me. Awesome. Fast forward a few days, we had our first call to talk about how we were going to tackle the case studies. The age... (read more)

56. It's as if they have no shame at all
March 19, 2021

You know, for every phony Internet Business Mentor, there’s at least one person out there trying to expose them for who they really are. They may not be as big as the IBMs they’re going after, but they definitely have a presence on the Internet. You just need to know where to look. I come across some of them mainly on YouTube and Instagram. There is one of them on YouTube, named Coffeezilla, that I check in from time to time. And not too long ago, he posted an interesting video. Here’s the story: For the last two years, he’s been making videos exposing these Inter... (read more)

57. The place to go where you can learn how to prepare for a zombie apocalypse
March 10, 2021

On Monday, I talked about how I listened to a man who lost a lot of weight by walking everyday. Well, listening to that actually made me want to do the same thing. I already work out at home and adding some daily cardio exercise will only be better for me. It has been over a week now and I haven’t missed a day so far. But one day while I was on my daily walk, I overheard a conversation and discovered something pretty interesting. Apparently, the CDC has a section on their website that helps people prepare for a potential zombie apocalypse. As soon as I finished my walk and ... (read more)

58. People nowadays would much rather listen to cover songs than original music
March 09, 2021

A few weeks ago, I attended a virtual Chinese New Year event hosted by a school club that I’ve been a part of since 2019. Though, it wasn’t the same as hosting the event in-person, it was still fun. There were plenty of activities to keep us, the virtual audience, entertained. There were games, dancers and singers performing. Actually, one of the singers that performed was in an interview that I listened to a few days ago. At one point during the interview, he and the interviewer were discussing today’s music content on YouTube. They were specifically talking about sin... (read more)

59. Mister Rogers' Lifelong Impact on Children
February 22, 2021

There’s a saying: Kids are like sponges. They absorb everything they see and hear, regardless if it’s positive or negative. And depending on what the information is, that may or may not affect them into adulthood. For example, I was listening to a conversation about Fred Rogers, also known as the creator of Mister Rogers’ Neighborhood. In my opinion, it was one of the best childrens’ television series to ever exist because that show planted a lot of important seeds in the minds of its young viewers. Some of them being: “I didn’t have to be like all the others... (read more)

60. How to Write Like the OG Copywriters
February 21, 2021

In my opinion, if you want to become good at anything, the best way to start learning is to study the pioneers. Back in the days where the Internet didn’t exist, copywriters wrote direct response ads for different types of mediums like newspaper/magazines, mail orders, TV, and radio. And who were these OG copywriters, you ask? To name a few: David Ogilvy Gary Halbert Eugene Schwartz Joseph Sugarman Now to learn how to write like these guys, find some of their their print ads online and copy them by hand. Yep, you read that correctly. You might be wo... (read more)

61. Psychology Tactics You Can Incorporate to Your Emails Right Now
February 19, 2021

In my opinion, one of the most interesting parts of Joseph Sugarman’s The Adweek Copywriting Handbook is chapter 19. This chapter teaches you 31 psychological tactics you can apply to your emails and all your other marketing campaigns right now to make them more compelling and get your readers to buy from you. Here are some of the tactics he covered: 1. Honesty Honestly, this shouldn't even be on the list, it should be a given. But I guess he's got to mention it because there are people out there that still market their businesses in shady and dishonest ways. Frankly, those typ... (read more)

62. The Process That Improved My Writing Tenfold
February 18, 2021

Once upon a time, I used to be a slow writer. It was one of my worst weaknesses. Because of that, I would always get stuck writing essays in school because I would have trouble thinking of what to write. The only way I got myself to start writing was to put off the assignments until the last minute. I mean it worked, but the quality always turned out terrible, thus getting mediocre grades. I lived with this problem for a long time, and it affects me when I practice copywriting too. But that all changed when I read the copywriting book written by one of the greatest living copywr... 63. Why I'm Rereading This Book Again
February 17, 2021

In my house, I have a shelf full of business books I’ve read over the past two years. To be extremely honest, most of the books I haven't read more than once, they'll probably live on the shelf for eternity. But there’s one specific book I reread over and over. Here’s why, I once had a conversation with a friend who happens to be a talented musician, and we were talking about my journey to becoming a music producer. This is what he told me: “...You should definitely study music theory for a good couple of months. Get familiar with the fundamentals. Chords, melodies, circle ... (read more)

64. Copywriting lessons from Indian call center scammers
February 04, 2021

One of my favorite things to do during my leisure time is watching entertaining videos. Specifically, videos of people fooling around with scammers from Indian call centers. You know, the ones who’ll call you to let you know that the IRS is going to sue you, or the ones who pretend they’re Microsoft tech support and will “help” you remove a non-existent virus from your computer. Usually, they target older people because they know it’s easier to trick them. But I’ve seen instances where they called tax professionals and police officers. On the surface, it’s a terrible thing... (read more)

65. How to Get Your Readers to Tune Into Your Emails On Demand
February 02, 2021

I don’t really watch a lot of TV shows or movies nowadays. If I do, either someone forces me to sit down and watch it with them. Or they recommend it to me and I get sold by their personal review. Back in the younger days when I did regularly watch TV, there was the amazing “On Demand” feature that allowed me to watch whatever show I wanted, whenever I wanted. My personal favorites: Phineas & Ferb The Suite Life on Deck Wizards of Waverly Place Spongebob Squarepants And many other Nickelodeon and Disney shows. But before the time of “On Demand,” you... 66. How to make your date run off faster than by saying "I love you" on the first date
February 01, 2021

Oh boy, I got something juicy for you today. I was listening to one of my go-to podcasts yesterday and I heard this funny story. Listen to this: One of the podcast host’s friends entered the online dating game, and she went on a date with someone she met. Unfortunately, it didn’t go well and she came home irritated. What happened was, this guy that she went on a first date with bombarded her with obnoxious questions. It was far from casual. He asked her questions that you’d find in a Buzzfeed “Deep questions to ask your date” type of article. That includes asking ... (read more)

67. The A to Z of Email Copywriting
January 28, 2021

Usually when you see the title, “The A to Z of ___,” it means a complete beginner’s guide to whatever topic that it’s about. But I decided to do something a little fun and take the title and make a literal A to Z email copywriting guide. And so, the following was created. Enjoy. Action is the very first step. Be your best self. Copying others is a big no-no. Don’t forget to always promote something. Exceptions? There are none. Forget about the unwritten rules. Grab a timer before you start writing. Have it set to 25 minutes. Initiate ... (read more)

68. The Case of Social Justice Enthusiasts Going Too Far
January 21, 2021

Let’s go back to June 2nd, 2020. If you’re a social justice enthusiast, then you may be familiar with that date. If not, it’s also known as Blackout Tuesday. A day to protest against racism and police brutality by posting a pitch black picture on social media. But as you may already know, this whole protest lasted for more than just one day. On that date, I even wrote an email about this. I’m not going to paste the entire email here, so I’ll sum it up as short as I can. I used to post content on Instagram. Basically, I was deciding whether or not I should post my regul... (read more)

69. Email Copywriting Lesson From a Professional Musician
January 08, 2021

Earlier today, I caught up with a good business friend of mine. We haven’t spoken since May so we had quite a lot to talk about. Most of the conversation was, of course, business related matters. But towards the end, it transitioned into the topic of music. After all, it was a conversation about music that began our relationship. Being the professional musician that he is, among other things, I asked him for some advice as I make progress on building my music making skills. The main takeaways? 1. Let your feelings guide you. 2. Be open minded. 3. Trust y... (read more)

70. Email Copywriting Tip From Phineas and Ferb
January 04, 2021

One of my favorite childhood shows was Phineas and Ferb. It’s a Disney show about two boys on summer vacation, and figuring out how to make their days fun. It’s a show that I never got tired of, even though each episode was extremely predictable. Here’s what I mean. Like all TV shows, almost all the episodes follow the exact same structure, and it goes a little something like this: • The show starts off with the two main characters starting another summer vacation day. • A few minutes into the episode, an idea pops up in Phineas’ head and says one of his famous on... 71. Come inside this article as I show you my 2021 strategy
December 31, 2020

At least for the first quarter of 2021, I have a rough strategy of how I’m going to approach my business. The focus for this next few months revolves around building my email list much more aggressively and revamp my nurturing process for my future 2021 readers. So here are my plans so far: 1. Aggressive list building This doesn’t necessarily mean I’m going to build my list using faster, paid methods, but doing what I’m doing already at a greater rate, including booking podcast interviews, virtual face-to-face networking, etc. 2. Power up my blog with SEO juice Ev... (read more)

72. Infotainment At Its Finest
December 28, 2020

A few days ago, I found an interesting newsmagazine program on YouTube called Inside Edition. A couple of videos stood out to me. “The Rude Behavior of New York Commuters” “Rude Commuter Behavior Caught Happening on New York Subways” “How New York Commuters Evade Paying Subway Fares” I checked those out mainly because I’m a native New Yorker and I can completely relate to those titles. When I finished watching them, I didn’t know what to think. I couldn’t tell if Inside Edition was a serious broadcast or they just do satire news because their style of reporti... (read more)

73. What to Do to Make Sure Your Copywriting Isn't As Useless As a Pet Rock
December 25, 2020

A friend of mine recently got me into watching crime TV shows. The first show she introduced me to was Grimm. The show is about a detective who discovers that he is a descendant of a group called the Grimms. Their lifelong duty is to maintain balance between the humans from Wesens, or creatures that disguise themselves as humans. But as a Grimm, he can tell the Wesens apart from regular humans. Then, I got introduced to another show called Criminal Minds. It pretty much has the same concept. The show follows an FBI squad as they solve numerous crimes. I only watched the fir... (read more)

74. Why I Don't Like the Way Colleges Prepare Students For Their Future Careers
December 22, 2020

Throughout my college career, I noticed some problems with how they prepare students for the job searching process. I mean, that’s not the only problem I noticed. There are a lot more issues I have with college, but I won’t talk about them all today. I'll save them for another day. But let’s zoom in on the job search preparation process. 1. Writing I don’t fully understand what caused this, but I know a lot of people overthink when it comes to writing. Whether it be an email to a hiring manager, or answers to job application questions. And I get it if you’re concerned about... (read more)

75. What I've Been Dreaming About Lately
December 20, 2020

One aspect of American pop culture that I used to be largely obsessed with (And still am, but to a smaller degree) is zombies. Zombie TV shows, movies, video games. You name it. I’ve watched iZombie, Zombieland 1 & 2, Peninsula. I also used to play Left 4 Dead, World War Z, etc. Sometimes I even wished I was put into an actual zombie apocalypse to see what it’d be like. But then my mind goes back to reality and thinks, “Nah,don’t be stupid. Why would I want to put myself through something terrifying and chaotic like that?” Speaking of which. I don’t know abou...
