Costa Rica, officially the Republic of Costa Rica ( Spanish Costa Rica or República de Costa Rica, pronounced&_160;[re?'puß?lika ð?e? 'ko?sta 'rika]) is a country in Central America, bordered by Nicaragua to the north, Panama to the east and south, the Pacific Ocean to the west and south and the Caribbean Sea to the east. Costa Rica, which translates literally as "Rich Coast", constitutionally abolished its army permanently in 1949.[2][3][4] Costa Rica has consistently been among the top Latin American countries in terms of the Human Development Index, and ranked 54th in the world in 2007.[5] The country is ranked 5th in the world, and 1st among the Americas, in terms of the 2008 Environmental Performance Index.[6][7] In 2007 the Costa Rican government announced plans for Costa Rica to become the first carbon neutral country by 2021.[8][9][10] According to the New Economics Foundation, Costa Rica ranks first in the Happy Planet Index and is the greenest country in the world.[11] In pre-Columbian times the indigenous people were part of the international Intermediate Area located between the Mesoamerican and Andean cultural regions. This has recently been updated to include the influence of the Isthmo-Colombian area. It was the point where the Mesoamerican and South American native cultures met. The northwest of the country, the Nicoya Peninsula, was the southernmost point of Nahuatl cultural influence when the Spanish conquerors (conquistadores) came in the sixteenth century. The central and southern portions of the country had Chibcha influences. However, the indigenous people have influenced modern Costa Rican culture to a relatively small degree, as most of these died from diseases such as smallpox[12] and mistreatment by the Spaniards.

1. Offshore Tax Advice
November 20, 2009
We are able to offer tax advice for Guatemala, not for other countries. In the other countries where we offer banking in (Ecuador, Costa Rica and Mexico) we have lawyers located there who can offer legal advice regarding laws in their country.
All the jurisdictions we deal with do not tax offshore-derived income. They are not part of the European Tax Withholding Treaty. The countries we deal in do not report any corporate or banking information to any other countries. Information “may” be shared in some circumstances involving a TIEA (Tax Information Exchange Agreement) request but then t... (read more)

November 16, 2009
A normal coffee bean is usually made up of two halves or seeds that are formed in a coffee cherry that grows and ripens in the normal manner. In a very small number of instances though, only one of the seeds is fertilized and grows to maturity. The coffee bean that is produced is known as a peaberry coffee bean and accounts for only 3-5% of the entire coffee bean harvest from a single plantation. Peaberry coffee beans, or peaberries, are much smaller compared to regular coffee beans even though they grow to fill the whole coffee cherry pod. Getting around Costa Rica these days is pretty simple. Although rains can wash out roads, most are in great shape which makes getting around the country fairly easily. 15 years or so ago, getting to even major towns like Tamarindo could be a challenge. Going with anything less than a four wheel drive was just nuts.

November 02, 2009
Costa Rica is sometimes called "The Switzerland of Central America," certainly because of the magnificent mountains and scenery each possesses. Undoubtedly, the comparison is meant to be flattering to the little Central America country but Switzerland and all of Mother Earth would be better off if it were called "The Costa Rica of Europe," at least in terms of ecology and emphasis on preserving animal life.
There was a time, long, long ago, when both nations had abundant wildlife. Switzerland had bears, wolves, lynx, chamois, and deer but the predators were killed off hundreds of years... (read more)

20. The Best Coffee from Costa Rica
October 23, 2009
How would you know that your cup of coffee is perfect? Is there such a thing as perfect coffee? That is the critique labeled on Costa Rican coffees. They categorized their type of coffee as the classic cup, the traditional balanced coffee that has no defects or flaws. But there's more to a Costa Rican coffee, for they are prized for their exceptionality- bright citrus or berry-like flavors in the acidity and in the best cups they fade into chocolate or spice flavors in the aftertaste.
Costa Rica sets the standards for fine wet-processed coffee for the rest of Central and South America. Th... (read more)
