The
Council of Europe (
French Conseil de l'Europe) is the oldest
international organisation working towards
European integration, having been founded in 1949. It has a particular emphasis on legal standards,
human rights,
democratic development, the
rule of law and cultural co-operation. It has 47 member states with some 800 million citizens.
The Council of Europe is now present on Facebook with its own Page. Fans gain access to the Council of Europe TV spots, photos, podcasts and brochures.
The Council of Europe podcasts, in several languages, offer listeners three to five minute bulletins on the Organisation’s work. Listeners can find out more about the Council's campaigns against death penalty, children corporal punishment, discrimination, or violence against women. Podcasts can be downloaded at www.coe.int/podcasts [1], or played straight from the Council of Europe Page on Facebook. For subscriptions to the podcast RSS feed, listeners can also try Podcast.com, Podbean.com and Feedburner.
Its statutory institutions are the Committee of Ministers comprising the foreign ministers of each member state, the Parliamentary Assembly composed of MPs from the Parliament of each member state, and the Secretary General heading the secretariat of the Council of Europe.
