A covenant, in its most general sense, is a solemn promise to engage in or refrain from a specified action.

A covenant is a type of contract in which the covenantor makes a promise to a covenantee to do or not do some action. In real property law, the term real covenants is used for conditions tied to the use of land. A "covenant running with the land", also called a covenant appurtenant, imposes duties or restrictions upon the use of that land regardless of the owner. In contrast, the covenant in gross imposes duties or restrictions on a particular owner.[1]

Covenants for title are covenants which come with a deed or title to the property, in which the grantor of the title makes certain guarantees to the grantee.[1]

In certain religions, a covenant is a formal alliance or agreement made by God with that religious community or with humanity in general. This sort of covenant is an important concept in Judaism and Christianity, derived in the first instance from the biblical covenant tradition. An example of a covenant relationship in Judaism and Christianity is that between Abraham and God, in which God made a covenant with Abram that He would bless Abram's descendants making them more numerous than the stars. Also Job made a covenant with his eyes (Job 311).[2] Christianity asserts that God made an additional covenant through Jesus Christ, called the "new covenant", in which Jesus' sacrifice on the cross would atone for the sins of all who put their faith in him (Matthew 2628). In Islam God reminds all humanity of their covenants with him.[3]

1. Understanding Employer Covenants
November 19, 2009

It is important to understand your employer covenants and the level of security offered on your pension scheme. The Pensions Regulator says that it is essential for the trustees of the pension schemes to 'form an objective assessment of the employer's financial position'. The trustee then has the task of reviewing the prospects of the scheme as well as the employer's willingness to continue funding such a scheme. What is an employer covenant review? An employer covenant review involves an independent and totally impartial assessment of the overall financial viability of an empl... (read more)

2. Hospitals, physicians can take some ‘Stark' lessons from Covenant case
November 12, 2009

Recently, Covenant Medical Center in Waterloo, Iowa agreed to fork over a huge $4.5 million to settle a federal False Claims Act lawsuit involving alleged Stark Law violations. The case in point teaches some lessons to hospitals and physicians trying to survive a growing government crackdown on fraud and abuse. According to the US government, Covenant submitted false claims to Medicare because it had overpaid five employed physicians who referred patients to the hospital for services – a verboten practice under the physician self-referral Stark law. The Department of Justice (DOJ), in a news... (read more)

November 01, 2009

‘…In the center, around the throne, were four living creatures, and they were covered with eyes, in front and in back. The first living creature was like a lion, the second was like an ox, the third had a face like a man, the fourth was like a flying eagle. Each of the four living creatures had six wings and was covered with eyes all around, even under his wings. 5. Living Out Your Freedom
October 26, 2009

‘Now the Lord is the Spirit, and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom.’- 2 Cor.3:17(NIV). If one must experience the freedom that God gives he must be involved in what the Spirit of God is involved, be where He (the Spirit of God) is. And talking about the New Covenant, this is where the Spirit of God is. This is what He is involved in now, and every other thing in God’s program that revolves or evolves from it. Prov.3:5-7 says, ‘Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your paths s... (read more)

6. The Christian Mission
October 19, 2009

Nearly two thousand years ago, one hundred and twenty disciples dared to obey the words of our savior. They secluded themselves in a second story room to receive the promise of an everlasting covenant, as the power of the Holy Ghost descended upon those hungry for something they never had before. They felt the pressing. They knew something great was on the way and with their obedience to fast and pray, the Church was birthed as a mighty rushing wind overtook them and tongues of fire fell upon each one. The wind propelled the disciples gathered together in the upper room into the str... (read more)

7. Covenant Relationship
October 12, 2009

Since the beginning of time, God established covenants and imparted anointing with his choicest of servants. Throughout the Bible and recorded history, great men and women have shared in the covenant of faith to impose change in their generation. We live in a time when a person's word means seemingly nothing. Marriages are dissolved daily with no regard to the vows of "to death do us part" and our courts are flooded with lawsuits. But it has not always been this way. In biblical times, a covenant, sealed in blood, was a promise of enduring responsibility never entered into lightly and... (read more)

8. Without Natural Affection and Covenant Breakers - Rom. 1:31
October 06, 2009

Most of us prefer a version of the Bible today that is a little more up to date in its language than is the old original American Standard Version of 1901 or the King James Version thus making the Bible a little easier to read and understand. However, in a few passages scattered about the Bible even the new literal translations like the ESV, NASB, and the NKJV, all excellent translations when taken as a whole, have led us slightly astray with inferior translations in an attempt to make reading easier for us. One such example is found in Rom. 1:31. In Romans 1 Paul toward the middle of t... (read more)

October 08, 2009

No other subject is given as much detail and attention in the Old Testament as the Tabernacle of Moses. God told Moses that He would speak intimately to him from above the ark of the covenant in the Holy of holies (Exodus 25:22).The Ark resided in the holy of holies, a place reserved for a selct few, and that only once a year. The blood of Jesus rippeed the veil away, and opened a new and living way into the Holy of holies for anyone who will believe. It is this kind of in... (read more)

13. God has done His part
September 10, 2009

for a covenant to be established and imposed, a sacrifice must be made. God has already done His part. Man must do his if he wants to reap and continue to reap the blessings of a covenant with our heavenly pa. We've got a covenant of grace with God, our dad, through the shed blood of Jesus Christ. No other blood needs ever to be shed again ; neither will any other blood, shed as an offering, be accepted by the daddy ( Hebrews 10:8-10 ). 19. The Vampire's Perspective
August 04, 2009

In order to write any decent piece of literature you have to start with character. Compelling individuals are the most important part of any tale. They are the reason for the story and the vehicle for the action. When writing about vampires, it is important for the author to try and get inside of the psychology of these creatures. You have to understand the mind of immortality, the soul of the killer, and the lust for blood. The vampire is a dichotomy of elegance and danger. They are born in violence, being taken into the dark covenant by another of their kind. Whatever particular detail... (read more)

22. The Law of Liberty
May 08, 2009

www.elijah144.com Today, so many doctrines are spreading around the churches. The world looks at the church and the word of God as something laughable, and they scoff and continue in wickedness just as they did before the days of the flood when "the thoughts of men were continually evil"[Gen 6:5] until God's spirit was rejected and "no longer was with men"[Gen 6:3]. A point comes where the people sin so much that it is continual. And the bible calls this "filling up the cup of your iniquity"[Rev 18:6] until finally that cup overflows and becomes the "wrath of God" upon the earth al... (read more)

25. Moral Law Before Moses
March 18, 2009

First off, we have very little data to work from, that’s the “problem” with the Bible - folk walk onto the stage, give their lines, and walk off and we’re often left wondering what happened to them before and after their appearance. Since there is little direct data as to the period prior to Moses' giving of the Old Covenant, we’re kind of stuck trying to fill in the blanks. When I write ‘law’ here keep in mind that I do not have the ceremonial laws of Moses in mind, but instead am referring to the moral law of God. When Noah & family got off the ark God did not abandon them to the... (read more)
