The crucifixion of Jesus is an event that occurred during the first century A.D. in which Jesus was arrested, tried by the Jewish Sanhedrin, and sentenced by Pontius Pilate to be scourged and finally executed on a cross. Collectively referred to as the Passion, Jesus' redemptive suffering and death by crucifixion represents a critical aspect of the doctrine of salvation in Christian theology. In the Christian tradition, Jesus is regarded as the Messiah, and his death as necessary for the forgiveness of sins, a doctrine generally known as atonement (and in some cases as substitutionary atonement). Jesus' crucifixion is described in all four gospels, attested to by other contemporary sources, and regarded as a historical event.[1] Jesus' suffering is said to be foretold in Hebrew scripture, such as in Isaiah's songs of the suffering servant.[2] According to the New Testament, Jesus was arrested in Gethsemane and following the Last Supper with the twelve Apostles, and forced to stand trial before the Sanhedrin, Pontius Pilate, and Herod Antipas, before being handed over for crucifixion. After being flogged, Jesus was mocked by Roman soldiers as the "King of the Jews", clothed in a purple robe, crowned with thorns, beaten and spat on. Jesus then had to make his way to the place of his crucifixion. Once at Golgotha, Jesus was stripped and nailed to the beam and hung between two convicted thieves. According to Mark's Gospel, he endured the torment for some six hours, from the third hour[Mk.&_160;1525] until his death at the ninth hour.[1534-37] The soldiers affixed a sign above his head stating "King of the Jews" in three languages, divided his garments and cast lots for his seamless robe, and offered him wine mixed with gall to drink, before eventually piercing his side with a spear to be certain that he had died. The gospels mention a total of seven statements that Jesus made while he was being crucified, as well as several supernatural events that occurred. Following his death, his body was removed from the cross by Joseph of Arimathea and buried in a rock-hewn tomb, with Nicodemus assisting. That Jesus was crucified is a well-attested event of Roman history.[3] Early Christians are considered unlikely to have invented Jesus' crucifixion because it would have embarrassed them.[4] Although almost all ancient sources relating to crucifixion are literary, the 1968 archeological discovery just north east of Jerusalem of the body of a crucified man dated to the first century provided good confirmatory evidence of the gospel accounts of crucifixion.[5] The crucified man was identified as Yohan Ben Ha'galgol and probably died about 70AD, around the time of the Jewish revolt against Rome. The analyses at the Hadassah Medical School estimated that he died in his late 20s. These studies also showed that the man had been crucified in a manner resembling the Gospel accounts. Another relevant archaeological find, which also dates to the first century AD, is an unidentified heel bone with a spike discovered in a Jerusalem gravesite, and is now held by the Israel Antiquities Authority and displayed in the Israel Museum.[6][7]

Was Prophet Yahya John the Baptist Beheaded?
by Agron Belica©2008
Prophet Yahya could not have been beheaded as has been stated by many Muslim and Christian scholars. In regards to Jesus in the Quran we read: “Peace on me the day I was born, the day that I die, and the day I will be raised up again.” The verse states that Jesus was given safety and security in these three situations. But what about Yahya ibn Zechariah? We find the same description for him as we find for Jesus, Peace on him the day he is born, the day he dies, and the day he is raised up again. ... (read more)

Easter is the most important religious feast in the Christian liturgical year. Christians believe that Jesus was resurrected from the dead three days after his crucifixion, and celebrate this resurrection on Easter Day, or Easter Sunday, two days after Good Friday. The year of his death and resurrection is variously estimated between the years 26 and 36 AD. Easter signifies new hope and fresh starts. For Christians, Easter signifies the divinity of Jesus when he rose from the dead. For others, Easter is also special as it signifies the end of the cold winter and opens to the new life of sprin... 9. 12/21/2012 Doomsday
February 04, 2009
12/21/2012 Doomsday By Tim Bohler The first thing is people shouldn’t be scared of the approaching date of 12/21/2012. Often Doomsday prophecies are very scary, but the Mayan calendar only stops on that day. The Mayan’s never predicted that this would be the end-of-the-world, but the beginning of a new age! Many more predictions about specific dates of the end of times, have been made in the past which have never come true. The predictions of end times appear to increase in certain time periods. After the crucifixion of Jesus Christ the apostles started predicting that the end was near way ba... (read more)

10. PONTIUS PILATE INSCRIPTION:Tiberius Caesar which evidently tells
November 17, 2008
It wasn't long back when a lot of scholars were quizzical the real survival of a Roman Governor with the name Pontius Pilate, the procurator who ordered Jesus' crucifixion. In June 1961 Italian archaeologists led by Dr. Frova were excavating an ancient Roman amphitheatre close to Caesarea-on-the-Sea (Maritima) and unearthed this appealing limestone block. On the face is a tombstone inscription which is fraction of a bigger devotion to Tiberius Caesar which evidently tells that it was from "Pontius Pilate, Prefect of Judea." This is the only recognized happening of the name Pontius P... (read more)

14. Whatever Became of Jesus?
March 07, 2008
Most Westerners are familiar with the story of Jesus Christ—perhaps the greatest moral teacher of all time. While the gospels devote many pages to his life, ministry, crucifixion and resurrection, the accounts of what happened to him after that are minimal. One would think, once Jesus was physically back walking on the earth after his resurrection, that the story of what became of the rest of his life would receive substantial coverage in the New Testament. But it is barely mentioned at all. Maybe there are reasons for this. The Gospel of Matthew devotes 156 verses to the story of Je... (read more)
