Data integrity is a term used in computer science and telecommunications that can mean ensuring data is "whole" or complete, the condition in which data is identically maintained during any operation (such as transfer, storage or retrieval), the preservation of data for their intended use, or, relative to specified operations, the a priori expectation of data quality. Put simply, data integrity is the assurance that data is consistent and correct. Often such integrity is ensured by use of a number referred to as a Message Integrity Code (MIC) or Message Authentication Code (MAC). In cryptography and information security in general, integrity refers to the validity of data. Integrity can be compromised through In terms of a database data integrity refers to the process of ensuring that a database remains an accurate reflection of the universe of discourse it is modelling or representing. In other words there is a close correspondence between the facts stored in the database and the real world it models [1].

2. Data Recovery Experts See Data Loss Increase in Recession
November 19, 2009
Data recovery experts have warned recently that data loss has greatly increased since the beginning of the world economic downturn.
Data integrity has been placed at risk in many companies due to a rise in cases of human error, they have revealed, as these companies have tried to cut costs by downsizing IT departments and paring back their budgets. The result of such cost-cutting has been a sharp rise in the number of mistakes by overworked staff and the resulting loss of vital data.
Companies that specialise in data recovery have reported a rise of up to 100 per cent in requests for... (read more)

4. Hard Detach May Cause Data Loss on External Hard Drive
November 04, 2009
For integrity and safety of your data on external/removable hard drive, you should remove the hard drive properly. If you do “hot detach” of a removable hard drive from MS Windows Vista computer, the drive may not work properly next time when you try access data from it. At the same time, you may see some warning events in system log. This behavior renders all of your critical data inaccessible and cause serious data loss. In order to retrieve lost data in such circumstances, you need to go for hard drive recovery to get your valuable data back.
In a practical scenario, you may find the ... (read more)

10. Performance Audits Ensure Database Integrity via XML Info-Flow Model
October 19, 2009
Data integrity becomes a crucial factor when complex activities in medical, military and industrial systems are dependent on the accurate performance of software fed by a database. Continuous verification through automated channels controlled by a separate database is the key component to performance audits success.
The second database employed as the verifier is populated with the original design requirements and development test results. This insures that the original project test-results are fixed and remain programmatically accessible to be used as a matrix-monitor of guide-marks dur... (read more)

13. Data Integrity
October 14, 2009
Database. For example, if a product is entered with a Product_ID value of 25 in a table named Products, the database should not allow another product to have an ID with the same value. Furthermore, if there is a column named Product_Rating that is intended to have values ranging from 1 to 10, the database should not accept a value below 1 and above 10 for this column. This can be accomplished by using the methods supported by SQL Server to enforce the integrity of the data.
SQL Server supports a number of methods that can be used to enforce data integrity. These methods include defining d... (read more)
