An emotion is a mental and physiological state associated with a wide variety of feelings, thoughts, and behavior. Emotions are subjective experiences, often associated with mood, temperament, personality, and disposition. The English word 'emotion' is derived from the French word émouvoir. This is based on the Latin emovere, where e- (variant of ex-) means 'out' and movere means 'move'. [1] The related term "motivation" is also derived from movere. No definitive taxonomy of emotions exists, though numerous taxonomies have been proposed. Some categorizations include A related distinction is between the emotion and the results of the emotion, principally behaviors and emotional expressions. People often behave in certain ways as a direct result of their emotional state, such as crying, fighting or fleeing. Yet again, if one can have the emotion without the corresponding behavior then we may consider the behavior not to be essential to the emotion. The James-Lange theory posits that emotional experience is largely due to the experience of bodily changes. The functionalist approach to emotions (e.g. Nico Frijda) holds that emotions have evolved for a particular function, such as to keep the subject safe. Basic and complex categories, where some are modified in some way to form complex emotions (e.g. Paul Ekman). In one model, the complex emotions could arise from cultural conditioning or association combined with the basic emotions. Alternatively, analogous to the way primary colors combine, primary emotions could blend to form the full spectrum of human emotional experience. For example interpersonal anger and disgust could blend to form contempt.[citation needed]

November 06, 2009
Our modern culture reminds us to use calm voices, speak clDivorce Tactics Our modern culture reminds us to use calm voices, speak clearly, and limit revealing our emotions. In some circumstances, this approach results in a sneaky undercurrent of categorizing a person who reacts loudly and with intense emotion to a situation as a hysteric, as a lunatic, or as an unstable individual. This new cultural approach was even evident in our last Presidential election when Hillary Clinton was described as “shrill,” or when footage of her becoming upset in a situation was aired for American... 4. The Importance of Accuracy When Tapping EFT Points
November 05, 2009
There is a belief among practitioners of the Emotional Freedom Technique that close is good enough. But is it?
The other day, I was reading an article by an Emotional Freedom Technique practitioner who voiced a concern about some EFT teachers who he feels take too much time teaching the exact location of all the tapping points. His contention was that the exact points aren't all that crucial. The important thing, according to him, was clearly identifying the troubling emotion. 7. The History of Abstract Art
November 02, 2009
Abstract art is different from other forms of art, because it expresses a place or emotion, rather than realistically portraying it. Abstract art is often synonymous with expressionist art, because it takes a place or person, and either simplifies it to the point that it can contain a single color or shape, or exaggerates it to the point where you know that it is based off of a real figure, but can't exactly distinguish what the exact features of that figure are.
