According to the Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles (DHSMV), the number of traffic deaths in 2011 was not only less than in 2010, but the lowest number since 1978. Traffic deaths have dropped every year since 2005, a sign that we are moving in the right direction. But we still have a long way to go. There were 2,373 Florida traffic deaths in 2011, compared with 2,444 in 2010 and 3,533 in 2005. Yet fatal accidents accounted for only a small fraction of the accidents on Florida's roads. Many, many more accidents caused significant and life-altering injuries such as paralysis, traumatic brain injury (TBI), and even life-long soft tissue damage. Any injury or death caused by the negligent or reckless actions of another is one too many. The DHSMV celebrated the lower number of deaths, but it also looked toward a safer future. It cited the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention's (CDC) statistic that traffic accidents remain the leading cause of death for people between the cheap wow gold ages of 5 and 34. "While the six-year downward trend is encouraging, we continue our strategic efforts to drive down the number of crashes in Florida and the number of injuries and fatalities wow gold that come as a result," DHSMV executive director Julie L. Nationally, more than 30 percent of all traffic deaths are caused by alcohol impairment. Imagine how many fatalities could be avoided if everyone turned their keys over to someone else before getting behind the wheel while impaired. There would also be far fewer fatal car crashes in Florida if everyone wore their seat belts. Seat belts reduce serious car accident injuries and fatalities by approximately 50 percent. It should come as no surprise, buy wow gold then, that the lower number of Florida traffic deaths is attributable, in part, to tougher seat belt laws, advertising campaigns against drunk driving, and more drunk driving checkpoints and traffic stops. Safer car designs, car technology and changes to licensing requirements have also played a part.
