When I was a child, I loved to play all sorts of games. No matter where I was, I can still manage to sneak some petty games for me to play with. But every time we would go to our gym for our P.E class, it gets me excited. For I know it was already time to play my favorite game, the dodgeball. Though I like to play other sports such as soccer and basketball, the feeling that I get in doing dodgeball is different. The level of excitement and intensity is way over the limits as compared to other sports. This is due to the aggressive nature of the sport which compliments my attitude. I can still recall in my high school year that our varsity team would practice in Knox Indoor Sports Gym or in Northcote Indoor Sports Centre. Every time our coach announces a schedule for practice in these establishments, I always have goose bumps. This may sound a bit exaggerated but I really get excited because whenever I play on these courts, it makes me feel that I’m a Pro. There are also times when I get too excited, I tend to throw the balls a bit harder than normal. Which makes some of our opponents upset, but they know it’s just part of the game. Dodgeball has a lot of varieties, one the commonly played one is called “battleship dodgeball.” The mechanics of the game is quite simple, each team has their own “boat” placed on either side of the court. Both of them will try to knock out the boat by trying to hit it with their balls. Only one player from each team is allowed to get off the boat and gather the balls but they are not allowed to throw it. The first team to “sink” a boat is the winner. Another form of dodgeball is called the “Dr. Dodgeball”. Each team appoints their leader, whenever a player is hit, he must lie down on the floor. Only the “doctor” from each team is the one able to revive the immobilized player. A team may conceal their team doctor so that they can protect him from being taken out of the game. The game ends rapidly if the said leader is hit. No matter what type of dodgeball you choose, you could never go wrong with it. All of them carry their own unique excitement.
