Proper Glass Handling and Storage Procedures

Glass requires careful handling, storage, transportation, and installation. A simple mistake can lead to breakage and injuries. This article discusses tips on handling glass and reasons you need a vacuum lifting equipment hire.

Glass requires careful handling, storage, transportation, and installation. A simple mistake can lead to breakage and injuries. Failing to secure your glass products can cost you a great deal of money. It can put your products to waste and pose threats to your workers. Read on to know some tips on handling, storing, and transporting glass in your warehouse.

Your workers should wear protective gear whenever working with glass. Have them put on proper uniforms and eye guards to protect them from injuries. These can reduce the accident-related injuries in case glass breaks on impact. Implement strict rules in donning eye gear for cutting and grinding glass. Thick gloves and footwear are necessary to prevent cuts and wounds during moving. Your employees can also wear helmets to secure them from collisions and head injuries. Make sure to do glass work in appropriate areas.

Observe proper storage in your warehouse to keep your glass products' quality. Glass panes should be in a 90-degree A-frame base. This ensures distance, height, and level of glass products from the ground. You can reduce the dangers of panes falling over with sloping back braces. These place the glass slanted up to face away from the surface. This lets you lessen the danger of accidents in moving, storing, breaking, and knocking over glass panes.

Glass is fragile. There are higher risks of breaking glass panes if you have a poor means of transport. Pay attention to moving, loading, and unloading glass panes. Place them on a smooth and level surface. Leaving them in a sloping platform can distribute the weight unevenly to your workers. Putting them on top of machinery is not good, either. Accidents and injuries are likely to take place, particularly when there are vibrations.

Observe strict guidelines in lifting and carrying the panes. Make sure your workers follow the rules and wear prescribed gear in transporting glass. Look for reliable companies offering lifting equipment hire. This is to secure your glass, avoid fractures, and prevent accidents in the warehouse.

It takes training and equipment to install glass properly. Your workers must still wear safety gear in setting up glass panes. They should also learn and master the use of machines and tools during installation. For laminated glass, look for a double glazed insulating unit for framing. Make sure your workers use a durometer to measure the surface's hardness.

Cushioning materials and sealants are other materials used for installation. Do a full risk assessment for your workplace and field procedures.

Broken glass can lead to accidents when not attended to immediately. Clean the area and remove the particles using an industrial broom and brush. See to it that the surface is free from debris and pieces. If necessary, rinse the ground thoroughly. Observe proper protocols for glass maintenance to ensure the safety of the warehouse and the entire workplace. Dispose broken glass in the right containers.
