What to wear? Isn't that the eternal question? When practicing yoga, there are some simple answers to this question. The first response for those of us practicing yoga is to dress for physical comfort. If your attire is too loose, it is likely to bind, chafe, and bunch up in all the wrong places. If it is too tight, you'll feel squeezed, hemmed in, wanting to escape. Neither option bodes well for a long-term yoga practice. The answer is rather simple. Yoga apparel properly fit makes the most sense. Form-fitting yoga apparel is made from a stretchable blended fabric that also has the unique property of wicking moisture away from the skin. This is particularly important to me because I tend to sweat a lot during my workouts. The moisture-wicking property of my yoga Capris acts as a cooling machine as the moisture evaporates and cools me down even in humid conditions. Yoga Capris and the Dual Wardrobe The beauty of yoga attire is that it is not only great for practicing yoga but it also serves as a part of your casual wardrobe. When you aren't working out, your yoga clothing is appropriate for the mall, for the local coffee shop, for lunch with your friends. In fact, there are few places where yoga pants are not welcome. Sure, I have read the critiques of busybody writers wishing for the days when women went out of the house wearing more formal attire including white gloves and veiled hats. These critics bemoan a lost world in which any form of self-expression was thought to be evil in its origin. That just isn't the case anymore. Women and men both have shaken off the formality of absolute compliance to live in a world where casual situations are just that, and more formal situations revert to more formal dress. That being said, yoga attire has, over the last several years, taken on a new role. Not only is it proper for the yoga studio or the gym, but it is also now accepted across all ages as casual wear as well. I think that is a bonus, not a loss of manners as the critics claim. Yoga Capris: My Personal Preference What one chooses to wear is always a personal choice. Style is sort of like menus in restaurants, there is something on the menu for everyone. At the same time, not everyone will select the same thing. Choices are important in all things. So I am not advocating for yoga Capris as the only or even better choice. They are the best choice for me. They may not be for you. I welcome a conversation about how you agree or disagree with my choice and why. I like yoga Capris for two main reasons. 1. I like the way they conform to my body. I like the way they show off my calves, a feature I like to show off. 2. I like the way they feel, almost like a second skin, allowing me to focus on my workout in the studio and to walk around with confidence in casual situations. The thing is, that while I like yoga Capris, my best friend thinks I am crazy. She likes the ankle length leggings. The truth be told that we can like different things and still be friends. In this vein, I suggest that the following be your guide. Discover what works best for you. This may take a couple of trials but once you settle in, stick to your choices. Look for comfort first and then think about style. I also suggest that in selecting yoga attire you think about your next vacation. Shop so that your yoga clothing will also be your vacation clothes.
