In addition, prior to the mid 20th century, French served as the preeminent language of diplomacy among European and colonial powers as well as a lingua franca among the educated classes of Europe.

Learning a new language based on the Roman alphabet is relatively easy if the Learner already speaks English, of French, as the learner dosent need to learn a new writing style or Alphabet.
Whilst many attempts have been made to provide support for students learning say, Chinese. None have managed to get to the crux of the problem, that is helping the student learn to write CURSIVE Chinese.

Contrary to common belief, the most widely spoken language in the world is not English, but Mandarin Chinese. Research conducted in the last years points out that Mandarin is spoken by about 1 billion people in the world, being followed by Spanish, English, Hindi and Arabic. Why learn Spanish of all languages? Why not Italian, French, or even Russian, because it seems to be the most practical language to have these days living in the US. With an ever-expanding Latin American population, being able to speak a language that is becoming so widely used would be an invaluable asset. Learning the French language could tire you at some point but it does require you to use your verbal and mental skills to be able to learn, understand and apply properly the French language towards your normal day to day activities.
