Skyline of Gloucester from Painswick Beacon.Gloucester was founded in AD 48 by the Romans as Glevum, and was granted its first charter in 1155 by King Henry II. Economically, the city is dominated by the service industries, and has a strong financial and buisness sector[1], being home to bank Cheltenham & Gloucester and historically was prominent in the Aerospace industry.[2] Gloucester is the county town of Gloucestershire, and is the 46th largest settlement in England.[citation needed] In 2001 the city proper had a population of 123,205. However the built-up area extends beyond the city boundary. The 2001 census gave the population of the whole "Gloucester Urban Area" as 136,203. It is located on the eastern bank of the River Severn, 114&_160;miles (183&_160;km) west north west of London. It is sheltered by the Cotswolds to the east, while the Forest of Dean and the Malvern Hills rise prominently to the west and north west, respectively.

1. Tracker rate creeps back up

Major mortgage lenders have today announced their intention to raise the tracker rate for new borrowers because of what they describe as an “unsustainable” rise in the number of applicants after the rate was lowered recently.
Both Lloyds TSB, which owns Cheltenham and Gloucester, and the Woolwich claimed that because other lenders failed to follow suit after they cut their rates it left them unable to cope with the demand placed on them by new borrowers.
The two lenders have decided to increase the rates of their tracker mortgages between 0.2% and 0.4%.

4. Mortgage charges are still rising

The credit crunch has led some big mortgage lenders to announce another round of price rises for new customers. Cheltenham & Gloucester has put up its fixed rate deals by up to 0.6%, and raised its tracker rates by up to 0.4%. And Abbey, the UK's third biggest lender, is levying higher initial fees and demanding larger deposits for some of its key deals. Lenders are continuing to ration their funds for new customers as a result of the credit squeeze.

7. Gloucester Receives James Forrester
January 10, 2007
James Forrester signed an extension of three years to his current contract after demonstrating his various skills. Forrester plays in the rugby union and wears the number eight shirt in Gloucester's club and England and will now stay in Kingsholm until the year 2010.
Forrester was born on February 9, 1981 in Oxford. He is very talented and possesses tremendous handling skills including a stupendous eye for the try line.
