Head of state is the generic term for the individual or collective office that serves as the chief public representative of a monarchy, republic, federation, commonwealth or other kind of state. His or her role generally includes personifying the continuity and legitimacy of the state and exercising the political powers, functions and duties granted to the head of state in the country's constitution and laws. In nation states the head of state is often thought of as the official "leader" of the nation. This series is part of
the Politics series Ian Hislop, in protocolary terms, is distinguished as monarchy or republic depending on the style (and usually mode of accession, see below) of their head of state, a typical constitutional provision, but as such this is not defining for the actual political system, which often evolves significantly within either or can remain unaltered in other respects despite a transition from monarchy to republic (or, rarer, vice versa). The stock market dropped sharply today and as usual, is putting many people into a fearful state of mind-which is right where we want them. The Asian markets are down again tonight with Europe attempting to rise but that is probably a head fake to see any small rise in stocks unless it is following another substantial drop in stock prices first. Floriday State University announced on Wednesday that coach Bobby Bowden will remain with the team – for now. FSU president T.K. Wetherell said that the university would defer the matter until the end of the season; he would not, he iterated, make any decisions about the coaching staff in the middle of the season.
He also added that the new head coach would be the current offensive coordinator, Jimbo Fisher. After Bowden leaves the university will negotiate an agreement to have Fisher begin working as soon as possible.
