During the 19th century, series of technological developments have changed the entire notion of communication. Latest mediums of communication have changed our lifestyle, business processes and methods of learning. This communication revolution was ought to hit the masses and it has been done through mobile phones. Mobile phones became accessible to common man towards the end of 1990, and since then they have been through unbelievable metamorphosis. However, the most prominent development remains the internet browsing through mobiles. Internet browsing was the watershed in mobile industry and has given the new dimensions to cell phones. In order to understand the entire phenomenon of using mobiles for business and personal reasons, it is necessary to understand the difference between a conventional website and websites specifically made for mobile phones. In this article, I will distinguish the two types of websites and how cell phones can be used to create business opportunities. Why separate websites for mobiles? Cell phones, in spite of constant evolution, are different from computers. Therefore, few things shall be remembered while making a mobile website. Option of send free SMS is also a blessing for people. 1) Firstly, make sure that website for mobile phone does not contain heavy data or graphics. Relatively small screen of mobile phone might not be able to support that heavy content, hence will make browsing inconvenient. 2) Secondly, people do not browse internet through mobiles to get into details. They are just looking for an idea to switch to computers for further details. Hence, website for mobile should be precise. Make sure content is to-the-point and consist of key information. Hence, mobile web development is different than developing traditional websites. What are the benefits of mobile websites? 1) With the increasing pace of life, people now have minimum time for themselves. Mobile phones are now the source of entertainment also. People on commute can now listen songs, watch live/recorded audio or video streaming and communicate with friends and family through social media. 2) As mentioned earlier, information on mobile specific websites are precise. Therefore, it is easy to find out what you are looking for. How to benefit business? Since the advent of cell phones, ways of doing business have been changed. Some ideas of how business opportunities can be created through mobiles are given below: Marketing is one of the most important aspect out of all business activities. Marketing and promoting a product is as important as developing a good product. Mobile phones have made this costly and burdensome activity quite cost-effective and easy. There used to be a time when giant organizations would set aside huge amount of money to promote their product through electronic and print media. Now, big organizations are also resorting to mobile marketing. Things have become extremely easy for small or budding businesses. Businesses that do not have stacks of money to carry out their marketing activities, are now exploiting upon mobile marketing. Now, they can get in touch with their potential customers by sending a text message. Conclusion: websites for cell phones are indeed next big thing. Analysts and technological experts are saying in unison that by the end of 2012, mobile phones will take over the I.T market.
