In the common law legal system, an indictment (pronounced /?n'da?tm?nt/ in-DITE-m?nt) is a formal accusation that a person has committed a criminal offence. In those jurisdictions which retain the concept of a felony, the serious criminal offence would be a felony; those jurisdictions which have abolished the concept of a felony often substitute the concept of an indictable offence, i.e. an offence which requires an indictment.

Traditionally an indictment was handed up by a grand jury, which returned a "true bill" if it found cause to make the charge, or "no bill" if it did not find cause. Most common law jurisdictions (except for much of the United States) have abolished grand juries.

In Australia, an indictment is issued by a government official (the Attorney-General, the Director of Public Prosecutions, or one of their subordinates). A magistrate then holds a committal hearing, which decides whether the evidence is serious enough to commit the person to trial.

In Brazil an indictment (called denúncia) is issued by the public prosecutor, a member of the Public Ministry, and it is the document that starts the criminal prosecution. In the case of some offenses (like rape, for instance), the indictment is filed by the victim (represented by a lawyer), and it is called queixa-crime.

November 05, 2009

If anyone knew about bigoted treatment, about a fake indictment, about being a trusting victim on the unpleasant end, it was Joseph. First, he got biased treatment from his family. His brothers hated him, wished to kill him, but sold him into slavery instead. He changed into a slave in a country where he did not even know the language. One minute he was a seventeen-year-old boy with his whole life before him, and the successive he was fully in the power of-actually the property of-some stranger. June 09, 2009

By : Rodney Howard Browne"In the apology of Tertulian Christians are charged with everything opposite of what they represent. The actual reason of their indictment is the fact that they aren't not agreeing with standard ideology. It is stated that they don't agree with the gods and they represent all that is malevolent. All that is noxious would be murder, hate, lust, jealousy, and adultery. These are the things that Christians preached against and refrained from.
