Co-education in Islam

Co-education? Do you know what co-education is? It means that an education which is based on combining both sexes i.e. male and female. In co-education school and colleges there are no restrictions on male and female mingling, talking, having gossips and outing. It’s a fact that Islam denies mixing of male and female openly but in today’s world the schools and colleges run under Muslims denies this fact. Most of the schools even got a slap on their reputation when news spread in society about the wrong doings in school. Basically, the co-education schools were founded by Christians and other religions on the basis that it can bring male and female together in walks of life but during last years shameful reports are coming about the incident in co-education schools, colleges and universities.

Let me remind you about the history. When British gained control over the sub-continent they forced the locals (Hindus and Muslims) to admit their children in co schools. As a matter of honor most Muslims families refused to send their female children in co-education schools for which they were tortured, etc. In hadith bukhari, Imam bukhari wrotes:

Narrated by Abu Huraira (ra): The Prophet said, "Faith (Belief) consists of more than sixty branches (i.e. parts). And Haya is a part of faith." (Bukhari)

The importance of haya (modesty) can be found in this hadith of Prophet: Prophet (saw) said: "Haya does not bring anything except good."(Bukhari Hadith)

Don’t you think that co-education system in schools and other educational institutions are denies this hadith. Don’t you believe that co-education system in our society are promoting immodesty, I wish you should read this news of guardian newspaper where a strange incident took place in co-educated school

The text in the link states about some of the harmful out comes of co-education in our society. Do you like the thing happened to our sisters in Pakistan’s university if it happens with your own relatives or your blood relations. Of course not.

These reports may shock many you. If you are studying in Co-education institute think is it lawful in Islam it have open relations with your opposite sex?

Quran says: "Say to the believing man that they should lower their gaze and guard their modesty; that will make for greater purity for them; and Allah is well acquainted with all that they do. And say to the believing women that they should lower their gaze and guard their modesty; and that they should not display their beauty and ornaments except what must ordinarily appear thereof; that they should draw their veils over their bosoms and not display their beauty except to their husbands..." (Quran 24:30-31)

So do you see it is now allowed in Quran for men and women to gaze each other which is a common practice in our society in now a days. God save us from it. In this youtube video a great Muslim scholar condemns mixing of male and females in co-education Schools unless and until women had not observed Hijab (veil) and under Islamic grounds. Even it is better that in schools male teacher should teaches male students and female teacher should study female students as expressed by Dr.zakir naik that if a patient is women she should be treated by same gender. Now, do you believe that co-education schools in our society are playing a significant role to promote Islam? Even they can’t do anything for us they should stop mixing of opposite genders to prevent them from committing big sins (gunah-e-kabira) such as adultery, fornication, etc. These crimes are one of the biggest crimes of according of Islam In some hadith and ayats of Quran the punishment for Zina can be judged

“And come not near to unlawful sex. Verily, it is a Faahishah (i.e. anything that transgresses its limits: a great sin, and an evil way that leads one to hell unless Allah Forgives him)” [al-Isra’ 17:32]

Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: “No adulterer is a believer at the time when he is committing adultery” Narrated by al-Bukhaari (2475) and Muslim (57).

The punishment of zina stated in Quran is: "The woman and the man guilty of adultery or fornication,- flog each of them with a hundred stripes: Let not compassion move you in their case, in a matter prescribed by Allah, if ye believe in Allah and the Last Day: and let a party of the Believers witness their punishment." Surah 24. An-Nur Verse 2

So it is a fact and hence proven that co-education system in Islamic society can harm our culture and can even led our youngsters to commit severe crimes as proven by the stories in the link. It is a matter of shame for our elder Muslims who run co-educated schools and allowed mixing of male and female youngster. Remember all sins are not highlighted. I have heard stories from my friends which tells me about crimes committed in their schools such as adultery, gazing, etc

However co-educated schools can be run with some new Islamic laws such as: 1. It can be made permissible for female students to wear proper Hijab under Islamic grounds 2. There should be separate girls and boys classes 3. Under Islamic law it can be made forbidden that opposite sex should mixed with each other openly and have sitting and gathering in campuses.

Remember Islam is the only religion which commands for Hijab to protect our mothers, daughters and sisters. Save your Mothers, Sisters and daughter from getting victims of Evil
