IslamReligious practices include the Five Pillars of Islam, which are five duties that unite Muslims into a community.[5] Islamic law (Arabic ????? Šari?ah) touches on virtually every aspect of life and society, encompassing everything from dietary laws and banking to warfare and welfare.[6] The vast majority of Muslims belong to one of two major denominations, the Sunni (87-90%) and Shi'a (10-13%).[7] Islam is the predominant religion in much of Africa, the Middle East and major parts of Asia.[8] Large communities are also found in China, Russia and the Caribbean. About 13% of Muslims live in Indonesia, the largest Muslim country,[9] 31% in the Indian Subcontinent,[10] and 20% in Arab countries.[11] Converts and immigrant communities are found in almost every part of the world. With 1.57 billion Muslims[12] (see Islam by country), Islam is the second-largest religion in the world and arguably the fastest growing religion in the world.[13][14] The word Islam is a verbal noun originating from the triliteral root s-l-m, and is derived from the Arabic verb Aslama, which means "to accept, surrender or submit." Thus, Islam means acceptance of and submission to God, and believers must demonstrate this by worshipping him, following his commands, and avoiding polytheism. The word is given a number of meanings in the Qur'an. In some verses (ayat), the quality of Islam as an internal conviction is stressed "Whomsoever God desires to guide, He expands his breast to Islam."[15] Other verses connect islam and din (usually translated as "religion") "Today, I have perfected your religion (din) for you; I have completed My blessing upon you; I have approved Islam for your religion."[16] Still others describe Islam as an action of returning to God—more than just a verbal affirmation of faith.[17] Another technical meaning in Islamic thought is as one part of a triad of islam, iman (faith), and ihsan (excellence) where it represents acts of worship (`ibadah) and Islamic law (sharia).[18] The Qur'an states that all Muslims must believe in God, his revelations, his angels, his messengers, and in the "Day of Judgment".[19] Also, there are other beliefs that differ between particular sects. The Sunni concept of predestination is called divine decree,[20] while the Shi'a version is called divine justice. Unique to the Shi'a is the doctrine of Imamah, or the political and spiritual leadership of the Imams.[21]

October 04, 2009
In recent years, many Islamic divorce cases were litigated in the United States family courts. The issue of mahr in the Islamic marriage contracts became subject of debate among lawyers and scholars. This article sheds lights on the Islamic mahr in USA.
Mahr is the amount of money, or its equivalent, paid by the husband to his future wife. Contrary to the popular notion that mahr is dowry, it is not. A dowry is what the wife contributes to her marriage while mahr is an obligation on the husband to pay his future wife. Others call the mahr a ‘gift’ given by the husband; it is not a ‘gift’ ... Is Islamism, Islam ?
I define Islamism as the twentieth century political movement to instill “Islamic” governments in Muslim countries. They have formed the political and governance template for movements in Morocco, Algeria, Egypt, Turkey, Palestine, Somali, Sudan and Pakistan. The Islamist movements begin with a small, religiously purified elite of the wider group of believers that are welded into a group that form the nucleus for political and community acti... For example, in a country like UAE, which has a high level of female education, the ratio of female participation in the workforce is still very low.
