An adherent of Islam is a Muslim, meaning "one who submits (to God)".[2][3] The word Muslim is the active participle of the same verb of which Islam is the infinitive. Muslims regard their religion as the completed and universal version of a monotheistic faith revealed at many times and places before, including, notably, to the prophets Abraham, Moses and Jesus. Islamic tradition holds that previous messages and revelations have been changed and distorted over time.[4]

Religious practices include the Five Pillars of Islam, which are five duties that unite Muslims into a community.[5] Islamic law (Arabic ????? Šari?ah) touches on virtually every aspect of life and society, encompassing everything from dietary laws and banking to warfare, welfare, and Jihad.[6] The vast majority of Muslims belong to one of two major denominations, the Sunni (87-90%) and Shi'a (10-13%).[7]

Islam is the predominant religion in the Middle East, North Africa, and large part of Asia.[8] Sizable communities are also found in China and Russia, and parts of the Balkans and the Caribbean. About 13% of Muslims live in Indonesia, the largest Muslim country,[9] 31% in the Indian Subcontinent,[9] and 20% in Arab countries.[10] Converts and immigrant communities are found in almost every part of the world. With approximately 1.57 billion Muslims[11] (see Islam by country), Islam is the second-largest religion in the world and arguably the fastest growing religion in the world.[12][13][14][15][16]

1. Spirituality versus Religion
February 09, 2010

Contrary to popular belief, spirituality and religion are similar yet very different. Spirituality in my mind is a connection with a higher power, whatever you call it—God, the universe, your guardian angels, a positive life force, etc. Religion is typically organized and follows a relatively specific path of ideas and beliefs. Catholicism is a religion. Islam is a religion. Judaism is a religion. Where it all gets blurry is in our culture. There are so many books out there fueling the debate. God is Not Great by Christopher Hitchens is a perfect example of how misleading t... (read more)

2. Valentine's Day flowers in Pakistan
February 08, 2010

St.Valentine’s Day is celebrated as a day of love throughout the world. History reveals that this celebration is solely related to life partners. Pakistan is an Islamic country. In Islam, there is nothing wrong with a husband expressing love to his wife and wishing a durable and everlasting marital relationship. As far as singles are concerned, Islam does not allow such type of relationship or gift exchange. Why? Well! That discussion needs another article. In Pakistan, Valentine’s Day was not celebrated until the onset of 21st century. Recent Dictatorial regime came up with the idea of ‘enlig... (read more)

3. Cremation Jewelry and Religion
February 03, 2010

While there are no religious teachings that specifically address cremation jewelry, religious doctrine and laws regarding the practice of cremation offer some insight into the acceptability (or unacceptability) of cremation jewelry for people of various faiths. Abrahimic Religions and Cremation Jewelry The Abrahimic religions – Christianity, Islam, and Judaism – have traditionally preferred burial to cremation. Islam and Conservative Judaism strictly forbid cremation, while some progressive Jewish sects have adopted relaxed attitudes toward the practice. Among the sects that do allow... (read more)

8. A Review Of Malcolm X - He Believed In Peaceful Resistant
January 12, 2010

Malcolm X was largely into Truth and Justice - but not the American Way. He felt "patriotism" was a crutch certain people were using to get at his own kind, as they were not letting them have their full civil and human rights. However, potent patriotic forces, albeit Black Nationalist ones, were what inevitably killed him. He had stood up to the leadership of the Nation of Islam, perhaps mostly as a political power play, and it had cost him. But he had grown in his appreciation of desegregation and the human rights of all people, and in his acceptance of the Islamic faith. While a mem... (read more)

What can be found in the Middle East? It is said that Moses led his people out of Egypt here to the land now known as Israel. Christ was born here and crucified here. December 29, 2009

The hijab is a type of head covering worn by Muslim women. The word ‘hijab’ is also used in a more generic way to describe modest Muslim dress as a whole. According to Islamic scholarship it has a wider meaning of modesty, privacy and morality. It means curtain in Arabic and a meta-physical definition of ‘al-hijab’ is a veil which separates man or the world from God. Hijabs have been a prominent part of Islamic tradition since the 1970s. Opinions as to how the garment should be worn vary from person to person within the Muslim faith. “If tomorrow is judgment day And I’m standing on the front line And the Lord asks me what I did with my life I will say, I spent it with you” ~Whitney Houston, “My Love Is Your Love” Lyrics “Only barbarians are not curious about where they come from, how they came to be where they are, where they appear to be going, whether they wish to go there, and if so, why, and if not, why not.” So said Isaiah Berlin. 17. AN ISLAMIC PROSPECT OF PERSONALITY
November 19, 2009

There are mainly two things which are the basis of a balanced personality in Islam. First it is; to be fearful with Allah and to be fearless with the rest. Secondly; it is to follow the true, accurate and factual Sunnah of the Prophet of Islam (SAW). Allah’s fear is the most prized thing in the human world which determines, explores, illuminates, and builds a true human personality to its greatest extent. It not only helps mankind to explore his own personality rather it leads towards a universal human oneness. A single smallest unit of Allah’s fear is capable to cover all kinds of pain and mi... November 13, 2009

For the last eight years or so, Falken whose product conceptions are globally distributed and best known under the Clean Plus® brand, has been slowly establishing beachheads in the Muslin world. Defying the prevailing conceptions of many that Islam was a threat, it has plowed huge time and cash backing its belief that the problem in these states was not one of extremism, but of sclerotic, overregulated economies that stifle entrepreneurship and isolate people from the global economy, depriving them of jobs, services and hope for a brighter future. 23. Who is to be blamed?
November 12, 2009

I found it very depressing and rather tragic on face book, some young new generation kids making fun of the great poet and philosopher Dr. Iqbal. It’s really is something very disgraceful and sorrowful for us to see what our new generation is learning. I grew up reading “Lab Pe Aati…” ,Bachhey ki dua by Allama Iqbal in school. Most of his writings are devoted to revival of Islam and deliver this message very movingly in his poetical works too. The vision of having a segregated State for Indo Pak Muslims was first put by him in his Allahabad address. The ninth of November marks birth day... (read more)
