Jesus of Nazareth ( c 4 BC/ BCE – c 30 AD/ CE) [1]—also known as Jesus Christ or occasionally Jesus the Christ—is the central figure of Christianity. Within most Christian denominations Jesus is venerated as the Son of God and as God incarnate. Christians also view him as the Messiah foretold in the Old Testament; however, Judaism rejects these claims. Islam considers Jesus a prophet and also the Messiah [4] while several other religions revere him in some way. The principal sources of information regarding Jesus' life and teachings are the four canonical gospels, especially the Synoptic Gospels,[5][6] though some scholars argue that other texts (such as the Gospel of Thomas) are as relevant as the canonical gospels to the historical Jesus.[7] Most critical scholars in the fields of history and biblical studies believe that some parts of the New Testament are useful for reconstructing Jesus' life,[8][9][10][11] agreeing that he was a Jew who was regarded as a teacher and healer. They also generally accept that he was baptized by John the Baptist, and was crucified in Jerusalem on the orders of the Roman Prefect of Judaea, Pontius Pilate, on the charge of sedition against the Roman Empire.[12][13][14][15][16][17][18] Aside from these few conclusions, academic studies remain inconclusive about the chronology, the central message of Jesus' preaching, his social class, cultural environment, and religious orientation.[7] Scholars offer competing descriptions of Jesus as the awaited Messiah,[19] as a self-described Messiah, as the leader of an apocalyptic movement, as an itinerant sage, as a charismatic healer, and as the founder of an independent religious movement. In Islam, Jesus (Arabic ?????, commonly transliterated as Isa) is considered one of God's important prophets,[22][23] a bringer of scripture, and a worker of miracles. Jesus is also called "Messiah", but Islam does not teach that he was divine. Islam teaches that Jesus ascended bodily to heaven without experiencing the crucifixion and resurrection,[24] rather than the traditional Christian belief of the death and resurrection of Jesus. "Jesus" (pronounced /'d?i?z?s/) is a transliteration, occurring in a number of languages and based on the Latin Iesus, of the Greek ??s??? (Iesoûs), itself a Hellenisation of the Hebrew ????? (Yehoshua) or Hebrew-Aramaic ???? (Yeshua, Joshua), meaning "YHWH rescues" or "YHWH delivers".[25] "Christ" (pronounced /'kra?st/) is a title derived from the Greek ???st?? (Christós), meaning the "Anointed One", a translation of the Hebrew ???????? (Messiah).[26] A "Messiah" is a king anointed at God's direction or with God's approval, and Christians identify Jesus as the one foretold by Hebrew prophets.

1. Transsexual Jesus sparks protests
November 06, 2009
“Jesus Queen of Heaven”, a play by and starring transsexual Jo Clifford began its five night run embroiled in controversy this week. Its short run at Glasgay! – an arts festival which celebrates Scotland’s gay, bi-sexual and transsexual culture – has upset Scottish Christians who have branded the depiction of Christ as a transsexual ‘totally blasphemous’. Brandishing placards saying “Jesus, king of kings, not queen of heaven” and “God: My son is not a pervert” around 300 protesters picketed on Tuesday outside the Tron theatre where the play is currently being staged. 2. Finding Jesus by Rodney Howard Browne
November 06, 2009
Joseph's life offers us an amazing portrayal of the grace of The Lord God as He came to our rescue in the Person of His Boy, Jesus. And rather than experiencing punishment, which we basically merit, we are sitting at His table and served more than we will be able to ever take in. So we hopelessly plead our case, only to have Him talk kindly to us-promising us peace in our own language. We then attempt to ward off His fury by negotiating with Him, thinking our tough work and sincere efforts will pay Him back for all those noxious past deeds we are guilty of. What we were thinking of was ea... (read more)

4. We must all be missionaries and help spread the Word of God
November 05, 2009
When we think about spreading the word of God it is easy to be stuck imagining the great 19th century missionaries who went out around the world and risked their lives to tell peoples about the Lord. Cannibals and wild animals rage in the popular imagination when missionaries are mentioned. This isn't for me, we are inclined to think. It can even seem that the world has changed, that everyone knows about Jesus already, that our work is merely to live a Christian life and nothing more. But we are still called to spread the word of God. Many people in many countries have even in the 21st c... (read more)

5. THE COMING BACK OF GOD by Rodney Howard Browne
November 05, 2009
Marie and I were enjoying a quiet evening at home. The house was weirdly still, and we were sitting there slurping freshly perked coffee and having a quiet conversation. It's biblical ; it is the exact thing Titus 2:13 claims,'looking for the sanctified hope and the appearing of the glory of our great God and Savior, Christ Jesus.'. You can not read highly far without stumbling on it, whatever book you choose. In the New Testament alone the events related to Christ's coming are discussed over three hundred times. But what does one do in the meantime?' I hear all pragmatists asking. Firs... (read more)

6. The Christmas Challenge All Year
November 05, 2009
Each year Christmas comes to show us the way to peace. Peace in our lives and peace within. There is a great feeling of goodwill and love that envelopes the earth. How can we continue to express this love all throughout the year?
Jesus came to earth, as others did before Him, to set the pattern for perfected men and women. His life was an example to follow. The keynote of His time here was Love. He always showed each one He touched a blessing from His heart.
Ancient and modern religion has classified Him as the "only begotten Son of God." Begotten means "becoming." They set Him up as... (read more)

7. Christmas - The Birth of the Christ Consciousness Within
November 05, 2009
The Christ is not just one person. The Christ is an "office" or "position" we ALL attain to. The word Christ means, "the anointed one." Jesus came to show us the way to be a vessel for the Love of God to manifest.
When the Christ Spirit entered Jesus he had perfected His soul in many lifetimes to be a worthy temple for Love incarnate. Edgar Cayce said that Jesus was Adam. In the "fall" was the promise of full redemption.
The Christ Consciousness is part of the Trinity, known by different names in many religions. The Father is the Will and Power of God, the Son or Daughter, the Christ... (read more)

8. Silent Prayer: Part 2 - What Silent Prayer Is, and Isn't
November 03, 2009
When we think about prayer, what comes to mind is some kind of request or solicitation of God . Maybe we are ill and ask to get better, or ask forgiveness, or maybe a little help with the lottery. These are the kinds of prayers that we mostly engage in.
We might also repeat a mantra, for example, the "Our Father," or Hail Mary" as an act of devotion or contrition. Then there are the holy thoughts about God, heaven, the saints and Jesus as we sit quietly. Or, we might thank God for something good that has happened to us and ask for protection from the bad. These are all prayers of thanks, ... (read more)

9. The Prodigal Son - When He Came to Himself
November 03, 2009
The story of the prodigal son as told by Jesus in Luke 15:11-32 is too long to quote here but also so well known that almost everyone acquainted with the Bible at all knows the story and the main thrust of the lesson taught there. However, there is one phrase in the account we do not talk enough about - the phrase “when he came to himself” found in verse 17.
This verse marks the point in the young man’s life where his eyes were opened to the extent he could now see clearly what before had been hidden from his eyes and as a result repentance entered his heart. As the text says (NKJV), “h... (read more)

10. The True Manger of Christmas
November 03, 2009
He is born of a virgin mother, the immaculate conception. He is a holy gift from God, chosen to have a divine feminine being as His mother, who eventually becomes the Queen of the Angels. Mother Mary, also known as Eve and Isis, shares Her brilliant light and love with the world to this day.
The drama of Jesus birth and death is symbolic of the path of a Christed soul. Edgar Cayce said that Jesus was Adam and Mary Eve. In their "fall" from grace in the Garden of Eden, was their promise to fulfill their sublime destiny as Christed souls.
These steps, from the immaculate birth to the f... (read more)

At times we spend a lot of time worrying about all the things that are going wrong in our lives and in the process we forget to take the time to thank God for all the great things that are going right in our lives. We have so many things to be thankful for and yet we choose to spend much of our time focusing on the negative. 17. Is the Gospel Offensive?
November 01, 2009
From our last Next Level Meeting The Gospel means Good News(1) so why do some people find it offensive? This is the topic that was up for discussion at our last “Next Level” meeting. We talked about a great many things concerning this topic, but for this article I will only talk about three of the things people find offensive. One is that people get offended when the bible tells them that we are born with sin – before we even have our first thought. Another is that God sees sin as sin – no sin is greater than the other. Probably the biggest one is that living a good life and doing go... (read more)

20. Work Out Your Own Salvation
October 29, 2009
As I was thinking about doing an article on this famous passage from the book of Philippians chapter 2:12-13 I first did a little Google research to see if anyone else had done so and if so to see what they were saying. I did find a couple of authors whose work I took a look at. It seemed to me like both had worked themselves almost into a state of frenzy trying to deny what the passage clearly states, that a man must work out his own salvation. One denied the Greek was correctly translated and made his argument on that basis. Let me quote the Philippians passage to you so we will have... (read more)

You know, early when you first came into the Methodist Church you came to Houston and you preached in my church and Richard sang and we could not get the people in the church for 3 services.
