The united Kingdom of Israel (c. 1050 BC - c. 930 BC) was a kingdom in the Land of Israel according to the Bible, a period referred to by scholars as the United Monarchy. According to the Bible, before the united monarchy, the Israelite tribes lived as a confederation of twelve tribes under an ad hoc charismatic leadership called Judges. In around 1020 BC, under extreme threat from foreign peoples, the tribes united to form the first united Kingdom of Israel. Samuel anointed Saul from the tribe of Benjamin as the first king in c. 1020 BC, but it was his successor, David who in c.1006 BC created a strong unified Israelite monarchy. David succeeded in truly unifying the Israelite tribes, and set up a monarchical government. He embarked on successful military campaigns against Israel's enemies, and defeated bitter foes such as the Philistines, thus creating secure borders for Israel. Under King David, Israel grew into a regional power. Under the House of David, the united Kingdom of Israel achieved prosperity and superiority over its neighbours. In c. 930 BC the country split into two kingdoms Israel (including the cities of Shechem and Samaria) in the north and Judah (containing Jerusalem) in the south. Most of the non-Israelite provinces fell away.

1. The Lord's Salvation Work By Lindsay Roberts
October 01, 2009
When Moses and Aaron asked Pharaoh for authorization to take the folks of Israel into the wasteland to worship God, Pharaoh gave a unexpected response. I suspect this conversation between Moses and Pharaoh unearths an important truth we want to know if we're going to bring our entire families into the kingdom of The Lord God. So Moses and Aaron were brought back to Pharaoh. 'All right,' he told them,'go and worship the Lord your God. But who exactly will be going with you?' Moses replied,'We will ALL go-YOUNG AND OLD, OUR sons AND daughters, AND OUR FLOCKS AND HERDS. We must ALL join toge... (read more)

2. Mankind's 6,000-year Trial Run
August 07, 2009
Is Earth only 6,000 years old? Honestly, I don’t believe that it is. However, there is a clear implication that mankind’s period of self-government is to only last 6,000 years (whether lunar or solar is not entirely certain). This testing period follows the same general test periods as Moses and the first three kings of Israel. Just as Moses could not enter into the Promised Land and just as Solomon would be the last king to rule over a United Kingdom, so to must the rule of mankind’s self-governance come to an end. As I like to keep things brief, I will only address certain aspects of this pa... (read more)

3. King David's Census Numbers
August 03, 2009
So there was once this great man called King David who conducted a census in Israel when it was a United Kingdom. The problem seems to be that there are two vastly different sets of figures reported in II Samuel and I Chronicles. You see, David was a man of war and had blood on his hands. The purpose of his census was to determine the number of men in Israel who “drew the sword” or rather who were qualified and fit to serve in David’s Army. Therein lies the sin of David. While there is much more to the story of the census than meets the eye, I only wish to briefly address the two sets of figur... (read more)

4. Bible Stories: Babylon's Great Army
April 17, 2009
There were twelve tribes descended from Jacob whose name was later changed to Israel, by God. , Ephraim, Manasseh, Naptali, Dan, Asher, Issachar, Judah, Zebulon, Simeon, Reuben, and Gad.
These twelve tribes were split into two kingdoms, the northern kingdom called Israel with its capital at Samaria and the southern kingdom called Israel with its capital at Jerusalem. The northern kingdom rebelled against God and went into idolatry, whilst in the southern kingdom, there were some who were true to the Lord. There were some good kings and there were some bad kings.
But more and more the... (read more)

5. Human embryonic stem cell research progress
January 04, 2009
Bolstered by supportive policies and public research dollars, the United Kingdom, Israel, China, Singapore and Australia are producing unusually large shares of human embryonic stem cell research, according to a report from the Georgia Institute of Technology in the June 2008 issue Cell Stem Cell. Aaron Levine, assistant professor of public policy and author of the book Cloning: A Beginner's Guide, studied how countries output of research papers related to human embryonic stem cell research compared to their output in less contentious fields. He found that even though the United States still p... (read more)

6. The Kingdom of God and the New Birth - A Matter of Timing
December 14, 2008
Why write an article on the topic the kingdom of God and the new birth? The answer is really quite simple. As long as people today have a desire to be saved in the way Jesus saved some during his personal ministry on earth - by faith without baptism - there will be a need to show the error of that position. On this subject timing makes all the difference. When did Jesus become a king with a kingdom over which to rule? When Jesus was talking to Nicodemus in John 3:3 and said to him, "unless one is born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God" and then later in verse 5 expands on that b... (read more)
