HIPAA stands for Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act. The HIPAA law was first practiced in 2002. The main aim of HIPAA law is protecting the confidentiality of the patients’ healthcare information. HIPAA law applies both to healthcare providers and the organizations. In other words, HIPAA law applies to any entity that has an access to healthcare information. The information that is protected by the HIPAA law is referred to as individually identifiable health information. The personal information may include the name and date of birth. The information can show patient’s identify in regards to patient’s mental conditions and the payment for healthcare provision. The health insurers, employers, and health care clearinghouses that are known to give in health plans must follow HIPAA laws. Every entity is required to keep the control measures to prevent the authorized disclosure of the HIPAA.
