Type in a word or phrase to search:

Macaroni is a kind of moderately extended, machine-made dry pasta. Much shorter than spaghetti, and hollow, macaroni does not contain eggs. Though home machines exist that can make macaroni noodles, macaroni is usually commercially made.

In English-speaking countries, the name macaroni is customarily given to a specific shape of pasta ie. small pasta tubes cut into short pieces. In the United States macaroni is also sometimes labeled as elbow macaroni, or more simply elbows, due to the slight bend in the shape of the pasta noodle. In the U.S. and the United Kingdom, this pasta is often prepared by baking it with a sauce made from cheddar cheese; the resulting dish is called macaroni and cheese (often shortened to macaroni cheese in Britain, and "Mac'n'cheese" in the U.S. In Canada, the dish is known typically by the brand name Kraft Dinner or simply, K-D). In some parts of the U.S., a more narrow type of macaroni is sold as elbow spaghetti.

In Hong Kong, the local Chinese have adopted macaroni as an ingredient in the Hong Kong-style Western cuisine. In the territory's Cha chaan tengs, macaroni is cooked in water and then washed off starch, and served in clear broth with ham or frankfurter sausages, peas, black mushrooms, and optionally eggs reminiscent of noodle soup dishes. This is often a course for breakfast or light lunch fare. [4]

1. How To Prepare And Cook Macaroni
August 20, 2008

Macaroni is a product of wheat prepared from a hard, clean, glutenous grain. The grain is ground into a meal called semolina, from which the bran is excluded. This is made into a tasty dough by mixing with hot water in the proportion of two thirds semolina to one third water. The dough after being thoroughly mixed is put into a shallow vat and kneaded and rolled by machinery. When well rolled, it is made to assume varying shapes by being forced by a powerful plunger through the perforated head of strong steel or iron cylinders arranged above a fire, so that the dough is partially baked as it i... 4. One Person's Yummy Food Is Another Person's Yucky Food
August 15, 2008

Vegetables and protein (fish, poultry, meats, and beans) are the most common food aversions. Some children even reject fruits. The diet becomes extremely restricted to bland, white foods, including sweets, breads, pasta, crackers, pretzels, chips, and macaroni and cheese. These foods are glycemic and raise blood glucose, quickly increasing the demand for insulin production. Zinc is part of the insulin molecule and is depleted, resulting in abnormal taste and taste perception. What develops is an aversion to the flavors in natural foods and increased cravings for highly sweetened foods and thos... (read more)

5. Raw Food: Can you feed your children raw food?
August 08, 2008

Every mother wants the best for her child. You want your child to look healthy, grow proportionately, feel energized and have a great immune system. So, why do most parents in America feed their children junk food by the time they start eating table food? Why do most restaurants serve French fries or macaroni and cheese for side orders and not steamed broccoli? It is really a sad situation to watch young children who are obese. Even schools offer peanut butter and jelly or ice cream for lunch. To ensure that your child is eating correctly you must feed them plenty of fruits and veg... (read more)

7. Recipes For Deviled Eggs
July 02, 2008

Boiled eggs with a dressed-up yolk have been around since ancient Romans poured sauces of wine, honey, pine nuts and herbs on them. By the Renaissance time, eggs stuffed with savory spices were common. Like other dishes that have gathered attention recently, such as designer macaroni and cheese and riffs on meatloaf, this latest interest in deviled eggs rode in on many streams. With the economy going to hell, the war dragging on and gas prices so high, you're talking about a lot of depressing things going on. During my childhood the deviled eggs were a family picnic staple. They're simple... (read more)

There’s good cholesterol and bad cholesterol. Either way, we just can’t seem to avoid having too much of it. There’s simply no way that everyone can resist the temptation of tasty food. Think of the deep-fried chicken from your favorite fast food joint, or Christmas dinner’s pork roast, coated lavishly with mouth-watering gravy; the macaroni and cheese, cake, and ice cream in a friend’s birthday party. 12. Stress and Eating
November 09, 2007

Why does it seem like every time you get stressed you turn to a bag of potato chips, a pint of ice cream, or comfort foods like mashed potatoes and macaroni and cheese? Actually, there's a good reason - cortisol. Cortisol is a hormone that helps our bodies respond to stress by preparing us for the fight or flight response and causes powerful food cravings. Unfortunately, the fats we crave (and ultimately eat) go straight to our abdomen, which is the worst place to store fat because it causes your cholesterol and blood pressure to rise. These are risk factors for heart disease. There'... (read more)

15. Macaroni and Cheese - From Basic to Bold
June 03, 2007

My child's favorite meal is macaroni and cheese. The cheesier it is the better. I like it myself, but the cheesier it is, the more fattening it becomes, too. Here are some ideas to make that family classic a little more nutritious for the kids. Mix up the cheese. Macaroni and cheese is nothing unless it is dripping cheese from both ends of the noodle.
