226. It must be nice to be a technology entrepreneur
April 16, 2021

One of the great benefits that technology entrepreneurs have is their ability to create any kind of software they want. They can create their own mobile app. If they’re sick of the giant social media platforms, they can start their own platform. They can start their own hosting service, website builder, landing page and sales funnel builder. Not to mention their own email marketing and CRM softwares too. Basically, any tool that you would use to run an online business, they can create. I met someone from a networking event two years ago who did just that. A very s... (read more)

227. 2.6 millions followers and still failed to sell 36 pieces of merch
April 15, 2021

I heard from a little email birdie that there’s an Instagram influencer who tried to launch a merch line last year and failed miserably. Here’s the story: There’s a young woman who rose to social media fame with an Instagram following of over 2.6 million people. She started working with a company to help her create her own merch line. The deal was in order to continue working together, she needed to sell a minimum of 36 pieces, which she couldn’t achieve. According to what I dug up myself and what other people have said, there were two main reasons why it failed: 1. Th... (read more)

228. Advice for this noble, mission-driven client
April 14, 2021

I once helped a client with some web copy, specifically her site’s ‘About’ page, and she needed some advice. But before I get into that, here’s some background info: This particular client runs, in my opinion, a pretty noble mission-driven business. She provides travel planning services for people to visit the lesser known areas of a country rather than the mainstream tourist attractions. And she does it not just because she wants to give people great travel experiences, but to support the local foreign areas too. The way her ‘About’ page was written sounded like her b... (read more)

229. I want to shake the hand of the copywriter behind this company's ads
April 13, 2021

One thing I miss about taking public transportation is the ads I see. One of my all-time favorites? The Oatly oat milk ads. They’re so simple, so consistent, and so humorous that makes them so memorable. I’ve seen ads that said: “You actually read this? Total success.” “Oatmilk ads in trains that give you something to read so you don’t have to make unnecessary eye contact with complete strangers are so convenient.” “We spent an insane amount of money on this fancy billboard. Hope someone interested in oat drink sees it.” I’m sure they run a serious busin... (read more)

231. Why you shouldn't give a flying fork about pleasing every single customer
April 12, 2021

There’s a lot to love about the British chef, Gordon Ramsay. He has incredible cooking knowledge and he’s very clever with his insults, not only to his student chefs, but to his customers too. At least the way he portrays it in the reality cooking competition show he hosts, Hell’s Kitchen, he just doesn’t give a flying fork when customers complain to him directly. I know that it’s all an act. He mentioned the way he interacts with his students is much less angry off camera. I’m sure that applies when he interacts with customers too, but he’s got the right idea. The motto, ... (read more)

232. How to "architect" good emails
April 09, 2021

I once watched a video about a person who talked about his experience studying architecture in his undergraduate program. After watching it, the main thing I learned was: “Form follows function.” It’s a quote that you’ll apparently hear quite commonly in the architectural space. It basically means the shape of the building should relate to its intended interior purpose. Or to look at it another way, when architects start designing their new building, it’s important that they think of the people first. Here’s what I mean. If you have a building that’s uniquely shaped, i... (read more)

233. Some lessons I learned from my journey to become a hobby-level music producer
April 08, 2021

One of my associates just finished revamping a platform she’s been building for the past two or three years. It was originally a platform for freelancers similar to Upwork and Fiverr, but that concept went in a completely different direction too. Ever since I was introduced to the platform, I’ve been regularly contributing blog posts, at least until the platform went under construction. But recently, it had its grand re-opening and I submitted my writing piece for the first time in over one year. This time, I wrote my piece on my music production journey, which included the... 234. Why I Find Cold Emails Hot Now
April 07, 2021

I usually don’t talk about this, but I guess today is the exception. Somebody once asked me, “What makes an effective cold email?” Now, I’m no expert on cold emails. But when I wrote a cold email series for a client months back and saw some results, that made me want to start studying cold emails. So when I answered the question, I made two points. 1. It had to be attention-grabbing. 2. It had to be different. I didn’t say it at the time, but a third thing I should’ve mentioned was to make the email about the person you’re sending the email to. It’s obvious,... (read more)

235. Witnessing next level marketing
April 06, 2021

I recently witnessed one of the greatest song promotion campaigns ever. The artist starts off with a YouTube video titled, “Final song before I leave,” making people think he’s quitting the platform, but he later mentions that he’s leaving Earth. He ends the video by playing a demo of his newest space-themed single. Then his next few videos took place in what looks like a space station. Their viewers were confused if he actually went to space or not. People were discussing in the comments section whether his journey to space is real or not. They were looking up th... (read more)

236. Applications of Low-Level laser therapy in dental practice
April 05, 2021

Low level lasers, cold or soft lasers: These lasers do not produce thermal effects on tissues and induce photoreactions in cells through light stimulation which is called photobiostimulation. Power of these lasers is usually under 250mW. The main point differentiating low level lasers and high power ones is the activation of photochemical reactions without heat formation. The most important factor to achieve this light characteristic in lasers is not their power, but their power density for each surfa ceunit (i.e cm2). Density lower than 670mW/cm2, can induce the stimulatory ef... (read more)

237. I love a sport that doesn't require physical energy
April 05, 2021

One of my favorite sports of all all-time is archery. It’s one of the few sports that doesn’t require much physical energy, but that doesn’t mean it’s a difficult sport. If you’re familiar with archery, then you most likely know there are two different bows you can use: Compound bow and recurve bow. Compound bows are the ones that look more sophisticated and they’re easier to use. Recurve bows are the more traditional looking bows and they’re more difficult to use. I’ve tried both and regardless of which one you use, you need to be extremely consistent with your shooti... (read more)

238. The concept of post-TV show depression
April 04, 2021

I recently learned the concept of post-concert depression. It’s exactly what it sounds like, feeling depressed after going to a concert because you had so much fun and it makes it seem like your life is so boring outside of it. I noticed that the same thing can happen when you finish a TV show too. A few months back, I was introduced to a sci-fi crime show called Grimm. I was hooked onto the show after watching the first two episodes. For the next few weeks, I watched as many episodes as I could in a day. Most of the time, I was able to watch only two episodes a day. Someti... (read more)

240. Analyzing the myth of red car owners having higher auto insurance costs
April 01, 2021

There’s a myth that owning a red car will increase your auto insurance cost. On the surface level, that’s completely false. When insurance companies calculate your rate, they take into consideration many things, but the color of your car isn’t one of them. But on a psychological level, there actually may be some truth to it. Hear me out. Red represents love, but also power and energy. Physiologically, being exposed to this color can increase your heart rate and blood pressure. It’s also associated with dominance. Experiments have been done concluding that athlete... (read more)

241. Easy come, easy go
March 31, 2021

By now, you’ve probably realized how different people treat their money differently. I’ve known people who have no problem spending money. They were willing to spend over $1,000 dollars partying and drinking. They have no problem spending hundreds of dollars impulse buying new stuff that they’d probably stop using after a few weeks. On the other hand, I’ve also known people who are extremely stingy. They’re not at Mr. Krabs’ level of stinginess, but they’d take any opportunity they can get to save money. But the problem with that is, it comes with an arguably greater cost. ... (read more)

242. One of the most coldhearted college professors I ever met
March 30, 2021

Let me tell you about one of the most ruthless college professors I ever had. He was a coldhearted history professor, and his classes took place in those huge lecture halls. I’m pretty sure I only saw him smile twice, and there might be a possibility that he hates college students too. The way he ran his class was pretty straightforward. He would enter the lecture hall, immediately begin his lesson, talk for an hour straight, and leave. Very rarely would he try to interact with his students. The only ones he would give individual attention to were the students who actively ... (read more)

243. Why I don't bother with reality competition shows
March 29, 2021

Personally, I was never too interested in investing a lot of attention into watching those reality competition shows. That includes dance competitions, singing competitions, heck, even award shows. It’s not even because the winners of these shows may possibly be preselected. Even if that was true, the other reason is that all the winners in these competitions are chosen based on opinion. Choosing who the best singer is, the best dancer, best actor, best films. All those are based on people’s opinions. But it’s a whole different story when it comes to sports competition... 244. A client story
March 26, 2021

Here’s a little inside look into one of my client projects. There’s a founder of a Texas-based startup marketing agency who wanted to work with me. He didn’t need help with any email copywriting though. Instead, he needed someone to help him write up some case studies of some projects he did with his clients. I told him upfront that writing case studies is not something I’m familiar with, but that didn’t change his mind about working with me. Awesome. Fast forward a few days, we had our first call to talk about how we were going to tackle the case studies. The age... (read more)

March 25, 2021

Tales from the Online Marketing Crypt #14 How to Dig Yourself (and Your Business) Out of a Downward Spiral In my previous Tales from the Online Marketing Crypt, I wrote about it being the one-year anniversary of COVID-19 hitting our world. I shared some of my thoughts on how much of a strain it has caused for most of us. I also revealed how I was the victim of identity theft not that long ago, and how it devastated our lives, forever changing the trajectory of what was to come. In fact, if it wasn’t for that insidious crime, eVision Media would not have been formed. I wo... (read more)

247. One of the most shocking deals I heard a couple made to each other
March 23, 2021

I once met a man. He was one of the few businessmen I know who reached some level of success in the network marketing industry. One day, while we were walking home together, he was telling me a story about him and his wife. He made an interesting deal with her when they started dating. He told her that if she paid for everything (All the bills on their dates and whatnot), then he’ll return the favor when they get married. ‘Till this day, he’s still married to her and pays for everything. She doesn’t have to spend a single penny of her own hard-earned money. If you... (read more)

March 22, 2021

I honestly don’t remember where I heard this from, but it was written down on my long list of email ideas. But this short quote has to do with where you build your business. Nowadays, social media marketing is one of the go-to strategies to promote yourself and your business. Influencers have built a following of hundreds of thousands, even millions of people on platforms like Instagram and TikTok.. Online business owners commonly build their audience on platforms like Facebook and YouTube. But is there any way to export your audience’s data and use it for future marke... (read more)

250. Why it's not a good idea to publicly share your business income
March 20, 2021

A while ago, one of my former business coaches started her own podcast. As much as I am a fan of the work she does for her clients, I have to admit, I don’t tune into her podcast too often. It was just recently that I listened to two of her latest episodes. The first episode was about her thought process behind why she quit abruptly drinking alcohol (She was a huge champagne lover). In the second episode I listened to, she talked about why she stopped sharing her income publicly, which was the episode I found more interesting. So let’s talk more about it. Long sto...
