126. Man admits to being a digital pirate
August 23, 2021

In a certain Facebook group, someone shared his copywriting journey. Like a lot of stories, it started off with them being broke and could only afford to buy a $20 copywriting book. They landed a few clients and earned enough money to invest in more advanced copywriting courses. And that went on for a while. Earned money from clients, invested in courses, earned money, bought courses. The story went well until he mentioned that he bought a “pirate email course.” I wasn’t sure what he meant by that at first. Then he mentioned he bought the course at a huge discount... (read more)

127. An inside look into the life of wine tasters
August 20, 2021

During pre-COVID times, I’d go on event websites like Meetup and Eventbrite to attend local business networking events. Once in a while, I’d come across other casual events, wine tasting was one of them that caught my eye, because at the time, I didn’t know that was a thing. At one point, I did some for-fun research and learned the practice of wine tasting. Apparently, there’s a whole process wine enthusiasts go through to evaluate the quality of the wine. Coincidentally enough, I listened to a podcast episode that involved this topic. This man (We’ll call him Pat) use... (read more)

128. The prospect who thought copywriting was a magical skill
August 19, 2021

I once heard a story from a copywriter. A prospect asked him to write a million dollar sales letter for him. The copywriter said, “Okay, how many people are on your email list?” And he replied, “Oh, actually I don’t have a list.” “Okay...do you have a product?” “...No.” “Well, there’s nothing I can do for you then.” And that was the end of that conversation. A lot of people seem to think copywriting is a skill that’ll magically bring in sales. Even I was one of those people when I first heard about it. Admittedly, it was part of the reason why ... 130. How to be a more selfish marketer
August 18, 2021

I saw a Twitter screenshot that caught my attention because it had to do with email marketing. ---------- I can't think of a more self-centered marketing statement than this: "Send more emails. It will definitely make you more money and if people unsubscribe then that's their loss." And yet I read or hear some version of it at least once or twice a month. ---------- So is sending more emails a selfish thing to do? In my opinion, yes. In fact, marketing in and of itself is selfish. When you’re marketing, you’re essentially promoting yourself, you’re promo... (read more)

131. LinkedIn user's Chick-fil-a story for attracting hundreds of views
August 17, 2021

There was a funny LinkedIn post I read, and it went like this: ---------- So I was in a Chick-fil-a drive through and the lady behind me continuously tooted her horn and flipped me off because I was taking too long to order. Once she ordered, I asked the cashier what did she get…it wasn’t much so I paid for her food. I continued to the next window and she leaned out of her window looking all crazy at me because the cashier told her I paid for her food. I know she was embarrassed so I avoided looking through the rear view mirror so we wouldn’t catch eye contact. ---------- ... (read more)

132. Man, is running fun
August 11, 2021

Last week, I decided to take my daily walks up a notch. It was too easy, and I wanted a challenge. So I started jogging. I started off with a light HIIT-like routine where I jog for 30 seconds, walk for 30 seconds, and repeat. And slowly, I increased it to 60 seconds. Then, I decided to test myself to see how long I can jog for without stopping. Turns out, quite a while. As long as I jog at a certain pace and remember to keep breathing, I’m good. At that point, running out of breath isn’t really the issue, it’s a matter of how long I can jog for until my leg muscles gi... (read more)

135. (LLLT)Low-level laser therapy in acclerating orthodontic tooth
August 05, 2021

Orthodontic treatment is a way of straightening or moving teeth to improve the way they look and work. By distributing the pressure of the bite to all the teeth through orthodontic treatment, it also helps to maintain the long-term health of the teeth, gums and jaw joints. The length of treatment varies depending on the severity of the problem, with some taking a few months and others two and a half years. Most people can be cured in a year or two. It is therefore of great clinical importance to explore safe and effective adjunctive interventions to accelerate orthodontic tooth movement, achie... (read more)

136. Reasons why email is dead
August 04, 2021

On more than one occasion, I talked about why email is not dead and why the “marketing experts” who claim that email is dead or is going to be dead by a certain year are wrong. But today, let’s have a little fun and do something different. Let’s step into the shoes of the marketing experts and brainstorm some reasons why they’d say email is dead. Now, keep in mind that these reasons I’m about to list may range from reasonable, to debatable, to outright ridiculous. So without further ado, some reasons why I think marketing experts online claim email is dead are: 1. Thes... (read more)

137. "Don't be a secret agent"
August 03, 2021

Last week, I had a lovely coffee chat with a real estate agent in Connecticut. If my memory serves me correctly, he might be the first real estate agent I got acquainted with. But it was definitely one of the more fun coffee chats I had. This guy was a huge law of attraction person, and our conversation got to the point where he shared his vision board with me. And if it wasn’t so inconvenient, I would’ve offered to share mine as well. As we reached the end of our call, he left off with this piece of advice: “Don’t be a secret agent.” It’s a secret agent’s job to ... (read more)

139. An important business lesson from the jazz world
August 02, 2021

I remember years ago, I took a class about the origins of Jazz. Sadly, since it was so long ago, I don’t remember much of what was taught anymore. Off the top of my head, the only things I remember learning were: Louis Armstrong and his unique, raspy voice. John Birks “Dizzy” Gillespie’s frog-like cheeks when he played the trumpet. And jazz improvisation. That last one is the most interesting to me, and it’s the thing I want to talk more about. Usually, jazz musicians would create melodies on the spot during their solo performances. But when I say on the spot... (read more)

140. This rant may or may not make me sound like an anarchist
July 30, 2021

There was a video a friend of mine watched. I don’t exactly remember what the video was, but there was a phrase from it which was, “There’s no such thing as true freedom. No matter what you do, you’re always going to be bound by something.” A pretty bold statement indeed, but it’s true. Think about it. There are laws and regulations that prevent us from being able to do certain things like committing crime, obviously, but also things like creating monopolies. There are also existing laws that are more on the ridiculous side. For example, In Alabama, it’s... (read more)

141. In business, you have to be cold-blooded?
July 29, 2021

One day, I was walking along one of the piers of Manhattan, and we were talking about how one of his friends wanted to start her own little business. I don’t exactly remember what type of business, but I know it’s related to selling handcrafted products. But the problem was that this person had a lot of fear that held her back from getting started. Specifically, fear of not being liked and fear of rejection. To which my friend replied, “In business, you have to be cold-blooded.” Now, don’t take this the wrong way. He didn’t mean treating your customers, clients, a... (read more)

142. How to achieve a master level in copywriting
July 26, 2021

I did some self-copywriting training over the weekend. I was listening to a video recording of a seminar speech by Gary Bencivenga, who is often referred to as America’s Best Copywriter. In one of his speech segments, he talked about how to improve your copywriting skills, or any skill for that matter. The best way to do that is by doing something every week to improve at least 1%. And as weeks, months, and years go by, that improvement will compound, and eventually, you’ll achieve a master level. When it comes to copywriting, Gary Bencivenga suggested following his “Ad a D... 143. What it means to have a strong network
July 25, 2021

Two days ago, I had a coffee chat with a former advertising agency co-founder. From time to time, I’d have passing thoughts of taking what I do now and expanding it into an agency. So why not talk to someone who has already been there and done that. She shared the story of how she and her co-founder successfully jumpstarted the agency by tapping into their strong network and brought in their first few clients through that. And then I decided to ask her, “What does it mean to have a strong network?” In my mind, I always thought having a strong network meant regularly ke... (read more)

145. I never thought I'd see this on LinkedIn
July 23, 2021

As you may or may not know, LinkedIn is a social media platform for professional networking. Emphasis on “professional.” But once in a while, you’ll see content that you’d never think to ever come across on a platform like LinkedIn. All these posts about COVID, the masking issue, and all the other social justice issues, in my opinion, should stay on Facebook or Twitter. Yet, people still want to start fights with others about these topics. Here’s a more recent example I came across. I saw a viral post from an HR professional who needed help finding a job. 147. It feels good to be the boss
July 21, 2021

A couple of weeks ago, I had a conversation with the Head of Marketing of a beauty and skincare company, and I asked her about her prior marketing work experiences. She told me that she started out in a marketing agency. And even though she got exposed to a lot of different aspects of marketing, in her own words, the work hours were insane because she had to meet the demands of the agency’s clients. She just did whatever the clients told her to do. A lot of experience gained, but very little creative freedom. Then she moved to another position where she did some branding work, w... (read more)

149. My first impression of Clubhouse
July 19, 2021

Let’s talk about Clubhouse. If you don’t know what it is, it’s a relatively new audio only social media app where people can have conversations in different rooms. When I first heard about it, I thought it was just another text messaging app, except it’s audio only. Fortunately, I managed to get access to the app and explored it over the weekend. I will say, it’s nowhere near what I expected it to be at all. The best way I can describe the app is this: Clubhouse is an app where you can basically have your own talk radio show. And now, I can see why the app went vi... (read more)

150. The flaw in Monopoly when it tries to criticize capitalism
July 17, 2021

One of my favorite board games is Monopoly. It’s a great feeling when you build hotels on your properties and charge expensive rent on your opponents to the point of bankruptcy. Monopoly Deal, which is the card game version of Monopoly with a slightly different objective, is also a favorite of mine. But recently, I read that Monopoly was created to criticize capitalism. And it makes sense because it illustrates the saying that is, “The rich get richer, the poor get poorer.” As you accumulate properties, your income will slowly increase. Then you reinvest the earned inc... (read more)
