Missouri (pronounced /m?'z?ri/ or /m?'z?r?/) is a state in the Midwestern region of the United States[4] bordered by Iowa, Illinois, Kentucky, Tennessee, Arkansas, Oklahoma, Kansas and Nebraska. Missouri is the 18th most populous state. It comprises 114 counties and one independent city. Missouri's capital is Jefferson City. The four largest urban areas are, in descending order, St. Louis, Kansas City, Springfield, and Columbia. [5] Missouri was originally acquired from France as part of the Louisiana Purchase and became defined as the Missouri Territory. Part of the Missouri Territory was admitted into the union as the 24th state in 1821. Missouri mirrors the demographic, economic and political makeup of the nation with a mixture of urban and rural culture. It has long been considered a political bellwether state.[6] It has both Midwestern and Southern cultural influences, reflecting its history as a border state. It is also a transition between the eastern and western United States, as St. Louis is often called the "western-most eastern city" and Kansas City the "eastern-most western city." Missouri's geography is highly varied. The northern part of the state lies in dissected till plains while the southern part lies in the Ozark Mountains, with the Missouri River dividing the two. The confluence of the Mississippi and Missouri rivers is located near St. Louis.[7] The state is named after the Missouri River which in turn is named after the Siouan Indian tribe whose Illinois name, ouemessourita (wimihsoorita[8]), means "those who have dugout canoes".[9] The etymology lies behind Bob Dyer's tribute, "River of the Big Canoes." The pronunciation of the final syllable of "Missouri" is a matter of controversy, with significant numbers insisting on a relatively tense vowel (as in "meet") or lax ("mitt" or "mutt"). The most thorough study of the question was done by dialectologist Donald Max Lance. From a linguistic point of view, there is no correct pronunciation, but rather, there are simply patterns of variation, diachronic as well as synchronic, according to such divisions as geography, age, education, and/or rural vs. urban location.

November 05, 2008
It feels like we've been here before. While the Texas Longhorns have never been a #1 team facing a top 10 Texas Tech team, it seems each year the Horns have entered a Tech game undefeated, the whispers have begun. "Maybe this is the year Tech upsets Texas and spoils their season." The more things change, the more they stay the same. After running through a gauntlet of #1 Oklahoma, #11 Missouri and #6 Oklahoma State, the chattering class seems to think that there is no possible way the Horns have enough fight left in them to withstand the offensive assault of Mike Leach's Red Raiders. The Texas Longhorns enter the game with a perfect 6-0 record that they hope to keep intact. 9. Ready for Halloween?
October 22, 2008
I finally finished putting up my fall decorations this morning. Living in Florida, we don’t get to see too much of this gorgeous season.
I grew up in the Ozarks in Missouri’s Mark Twain National Forest. In October, I was surrounded with changing colors of the Oak, Sugar Maple, Elm and many other beautiful trees. As beings as I don’t get to see them much here in Florida, I like to put the fall colored leaves around my house to warm it, and remind us of the season.
I was born on Halloween. Of all holidays, why this one. I think the main reason why I dislike being born on Halloween is b... (read more)

10. Texas vs. Missouri
October 20, 2008
Longhorns -4 vs. Tigers
In probably the best matchup of the week, the Missouri Tigers travel southwest to take on the Texas Longhorns Saturday night in Austin. As great of a matchup as it will be, a number 11 taking on the top team in the nation, it could have been so much better. Early in the day, after Texas played an incredible game to upset the then number one team in the nation, Oklahoma, it appeared that this matchup could possibly be number one versus number two. Alas, Missouri did not live up to their end of the bargain as they were upset by Oklahoma State 28-23 in Faurot Field. ... (read more)

11. Texas Tech vs. Nebraska
October 14, 2008
Red Raiders - 20 1/2 vs Cornhuskers
This match up between the Nebraska Cornhuskers and the Texas Tech Red Raiders should be another display of offensive perfection on the Nebraska defense.
The Cornhuskers will be looking to rebound from being absolutely dominated by Missouri last weekend in which they gave up 52 points to the Tigers in their second loss of the season. Not only did the Tigers destroy the Cornhuskers, but they scored their 52 points in only three quarters of play which doesn’t say much for Nebraska’s defense.
The Red Raiders continue to impress with their high pow... (read more)

15. Off Lease and Repos, Construction Equipment and Commercial Vehicles
October 10, 2008
In today's unstable economy, the startup and seasoned business has an unique opportunity to acquire an attractive deal for off leases and repos for commercial trucks and construction equipment. Due to a contracting economy, many lenders have excess inventories on their books that they need to put back on the street. These in-house inventories are non income producing, therefore putting pressure on the lender to make a deal with the consumer. These deals can be found in the price, the financing or a combination of both.
