[[ImageAmanita muscaria (fly agaric).JPG|right|thumb|250px|The mushroom Amanita muscaria, commonly known for the foot fungus worn by santa claus A mushroom is the fleshy, spore-bearing fruiting body of a fungus, typically produced above ground on soil or on its food source. The standard for the name "mushroom" is the cultivated white button mushroom, Agaricus bisporus, hence the word mushroom is most often applied to those fungi (Basidiomycota, Agaricomycetes) that have a stem (stipe), a cap (pileus), and gills (lamellae, sing. lamella) on the underside of the cap, just as do store-bought white mushrooms. The word "mushroom" can also be used for a wide variety of gilled fungi, with or without stems, and the term is used even more generally, to describe both the fleshy fruiting bodies of some Ascomycota and the woody or leathery fruiting bodies of some Basidiomycota, depending upon the context of the word. Forms deviating from the standard form usually have more specific names, such as "puffball", "stinkhorn", and "morel", and gilled mushrooms themselves are often called "agarics" in reference to their similarity to Agaricus or their placement in the order Agaricales. By extension, "mushroom" can also designate the entire fungus when in culture or the thallus (called a mycelium) of species forming the fruiting bodies called mushrooms.

November 11, 2008
As the Internet mushrooms beyond recognition, it has become harder and harder to get a “handle” on the news rushing at us from different mediums. Between managing my online ventures and spending time with family and friends, I barely get enough time to stay in touch with the SEO industry – forget participating in forums, I’m talking about not having enough time to read the latest “news” in SEO circles. To make sure I got a grip on things (and as part of a larger time management effort), I started keeping a list of the blogs and “resources” that covered the whole industry, and put them all into... 5. How To Cope With Infectious Diseases
September 29, 2008
There are four main kinds of germs that cause infectious diseases. Bacteria are single-cell germs that have the ability to multiply rapidly and release chemicals that will make you sick. Viruses are capsules containing genetic information and use your own cells to multiply.
Fungi are vegetable-like mushrooms or mildew that will make you ill and protozoa are single-cell predators that are looking for a host where they can eat and live. 9. I SAW MY GRANDMA IN HEAVEN
August 22, 2008
I SAW MY GRANDMA IN HEAVEN By Liz Gilbert One summer when I was young, my parents took my brother and I up to our grandparents' house in the upper peninsula of Michigan. They had a perfectly rustic cabin with the woods on one side and a beautiful lake on the other. We would hike up the road to a lodge that kept a herd of elk, practice with the small 22 rifle, and everything else you could imagine doing in some of the most beautiful land in this country. Yes, there were bugs the size of my head, "ew!", but I didn't care. I loved it there. I loved spending time with my grandpare... (read more)

10. TAILGATE BURGERS
August 22, 2008
TAILGATE BURGERS By Jamie Gilbert It's that time of year again. Can you smell it? NFL preseason started last week, and college football starts up again within weeks, and if you're like any good tailgater, you'll have a grill ready every Saturday and/or Sunday supporting your favorite team. Now can you smell it? The grill, breath it in. Ah. The smell of meat cooking. That's a good smell. I am a proud "meatatarian". Beef, Chicken, Pork Chops, Ribs, that's my kind of food. And grilling with an open flame is the best part of being a man. It's primal. (Grunt, grunt, howl at th... (read more)

11. Do you Have Some Affiliate Marketing Opportunities Become Overblown and Annoying?
August 20, 2008
My first impression of SFI was pretty positive. I read the come-on headline that said SFI was getting 4,000 prospects into the program every week (not every month, but every week).
Man, I figured, this is it, they are in more countries around the world than you can shake a stick at, and this thing is growing like mushrooms on lawns in the Pacific Northwest (we get a lot of rain in the winter). And trust me when I say they had some products and services, more than 600 of them. What's not to like?
SFI immediately threw out a Smart Start Training Program for newcomers like me, and I w... (read more)
