1. President Potato Head and His Christian Soldiers
April 22, 2008
Around the world people are rediscovering the Solanum tuberosum, a starchy tuberous root vegetable that was first cultivated in Peru some 7,000 years ago, or so says Wikipedia. In the US we produce an average of about 450 million hundredweight (112 pounds) of potatoes each year. That's a bit more than one potato, two potato, three potato, or four. And you can expect that tonnage to increase in direct proportion to the decrease of dollars in peoples’ pockets. That's not all of the bad news; those dollars, wherever they're being kept, are being devalued.
America's renewed interest in this ... (read more)

2. Two American Soldiers Going It Alone by Bob Miller
April 21, 2008
Don't know whether or not any of you saw the news report of US soldiers trying to get some Iraqi soldiers to move in on some guys who were firing at them from rooftops, but it sure brought back a Vietnam event for me.
I'll never forget flying the battalion commander of the 3-506th Airborne around in circles watching a company of ARVN soldiers led by a US officer refuse to advance on what turned out to be six NVA soldiers hiding in a wooded area. This US tried his best to get these South Vietnamese soldiers to attack, only to have them stop to fix lunch. Finally, the US, in total disbelief... (read more)

3. Are Republicans Thugs?
April 20, 2008
In order to answer the question, Are Republicans Thugs?, it'll take coming to grips with the fact that the Republican Party is not the same party one's grandparents voted for.
To grasp what has taken place, one must understand that from the late 1800s thru the mid-1900s, the Democratic Party was controlled by the unions in the United States. At that time, the US manufactured 90% of the goods Americans used and 30% of those used in other countries; the Democrats ruled through labor. Although there was enough lies and stealing going on to tilt Earth on its axis, the jobs and money stayed in... (read more)

4. Spit, Urine and Dung
April 16, 2008
On a cruise ship not long ago, a fellow passenger asked out of the blue, "How's that fence between the US and Mexico coming?" It was apparent this fellow was of Spanish decent.
I replied, "Oh, it's coming along just fine. We expect it'll be a real inconvenience for hundreds of animals like jack rabbits, coyotes, and wild burros. The US Chamber of Commerce hasn't said exactly where they're going to put the holes and ladders so their employees can pass, but I feel reasonably sure they'll put them in convenient places."
The stranger smiled, "Well, your news guy Lou Dobbs sure beats tha... (read more)

5. Don't Break Your Mother's Heart
April 14, 2008
Young irreplaceable Americans, getting a good education is a terrific way to serve your country…there are heroes in every walk of life, not just the military.
I'm going to share with you a couple of things about our country that I wish were not true, but they are. Guys like John McCain and I are not heroes. The North Vietnamese were no threat to the US; yet we flew into their country and killed people who were not attacking America. I was shot down twice in South Vietnam, but got lucky; Mr. McCain wasn't so lucky. McCain didn't volunteer to be a POW; he was shot down by people who were tr... (read more)

6. Serial Killers Supreme
April 11, 2008
Since I've worked in the back alleys and sewers of the US federal government for years, I'm often asked about the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA). I can sum up the people who make up this organization in one word--putrid.
Every CIA agent I've met has been a reckless thug whose death would only improve our air quality. In nearly every case where the CIA had been counted on for up-to-date and accurate intelligence, they've failed. This agency, more than any other, has provided false and/or tainted information to Congress time and time again. Not only are these hooligans not held accountab... (read more)

7. Had I known You Were a Jew
April 07, 2008
It was a dark and stormy night in Las Vegas. When I walked out of the casino, my partner said as he got into his car, "Do your best not to kill anyone tonight, Miller." I didn't bother to answer him because that would have been a commitment. Our vocation required that we carry a concealed weapon, and I almost never went anywhere without it.
Somewhere near the intersection of Sahara and Las Vegas Blvd., I saw two men trying to beat up some old guy. I say trying because the old man was holding his own. I decided to just watch since he was raising some knots on the heads of these two guys.... (read more)

8. What George Lacks In Intellect He Makes Up For In Stupidity
April 03, 2008
The war in Iraq has seen the lives of 4,000 Americans destroyed for political gain. Despite mass protests and vocal opposition to the war and the underlying reasons behind it, the powers that be have elected to pursue their personal agenda by proxy, spending lives like worthless dollars in a conflict that isn’t necessary and hasn’t been shown to be worthwhile. While the US economy nosedives into recession, the authorities are continuing to pump resources into the Iraqi war effort instead of supporting public services and improving the lives of ordinary Americans. The dollar is on its knee... (read more)

9. George W. Bush Took the Only Road Available
April 03, 2008
Al Gore or John Kerry could have gone down several different roads to achieve the US objectives of controlling the oil reserves in Iraq. But without any leadership abilities, poor breeding, and being surrounded his entire life by some of the most sinister men on the planet, George W. Bush took the only road available to him. The invasion of Iraq in 2003 sparked one of the most serious errors of judgement in recent times. It was an invasion on the basis of an illegal weapons program that was threatening the stability of America and global peace. The Iraqi operation turned up nothing other ... (read more)

10. Who Do You Read?
April 03, 2008
One can tell exactly how much a US voter knows about his or her political party by what they read. As a registered Republican, I can tell you that the information that comes out of right-wing think tanks is far less valuable today than it would have been when the outhouse was the rule, not the exception. Republicans who know about the Harriman-Bush sponsorship of Hitlerism are usually well educated and wealthy, and they will tell you in private that they couldn't possibly care less. That's understandable since their only concern is what their country can do for them. At this social level ... (read more)
