In linguistics, a noun is a member of a large, open lexical category whose members can occur as the main word in the subject of a clause, the object of a verb, or the object of a preposition. [1]Lexical categories are defined in terms of how their members combine with other kinds of expressions. The syntactic rules for nouns differ from language to language. In English, nouns may be defined as those words which can occur with articles and attributive adjectives and can function as the head of a noun phrase. In traditional English grammar, the noun is one of the eight parts of speech. The word comes from the Latin nomen meaning "name". Word classes like nouns were first described by the Sanskrit grammarian Pa?ini and ancient Greeks like Dionysios Thrax; and were defined in terms of their morphological properties. For example, in Ancient Greek, nouns inflect for grammatical case, such as dative or accusative. Verbs, on the other hand, inflect for tenses, such as past, present or future, while nouns do not. Aristotle also had a notion of onomata (nouns) and rhemata (verbs) which, however, does not exactly correspond with modern notions of nouns and verbs.[citation needed]

October 20, 2008
When you learn Russian numbers, it is easier to learn nouns along with them. For example, you can learn how to say one cat, two cats, etc., so that you do learn more vocabulary than you would by just concentrating on numbers. For those whose native language is English, learning to speak Russian involves a lot of memorization. The reason is that it is not enough for you just to learn the singular form of a noun because of the way the nouns change in the plural form. So if when learning the plural, you associate them with numbers you do kill two birds with one stone.

5. Basic Instruction for French Adjectives
October 13, 2008
Just as in English, adjectives are used in the French language to describe nouns. However, French adjectives are different both in the way the spelling changes according to the gender of the noun and their placement in a sentence. In French, the adjectives not only have to agree with the gender of the noun, they also have to agree with the number. If you are describing a plural noun, then the adjective has to be plural as well. For the most part, adjectives in French end with the letter the feminine gender and all of them add make the adjective plural.

May 07, 2008
Many NLP students have a hard time understanding and using nominalizations appropriately. Most learn in their early training that we should de-nominalize every intangible noun spoken. I used to believe I had to run from nominalizations like the plague. A nominalization is a world of its own (funny, even the word "world" is a nominalization... He he he, they're all over the place). You have to expore it to understand it. And it serves a powerful purpose. It enables us to package a process into an entity and to move it around, leverage it and make it interact with other processes.... (read more)

What is xtreme? March 17, 2008
This question of the definition of extreme intrigues me - here are a couple of suggestions kindly provided by the free online dictionary:
Most remote in any direction; outermost or farthest (as an adjective);
The greatest or utmost degree or point (as a noun).
So in the context of ‘extreme sport’ the definition of extreme being used as the adjective is very appropriate……but i believe it is much more than just the ‘outermost’ or ‘farthest’.
