Investing of loose gemstones can be a dismaying task if you are not aware with considerations that influence the cost of the stone. Once you have distinquished the term "windowed" and "fish eye" and know what to look for, the difference is quickly seen between fine cut gemstones and commercial cut gemstones. Usually American cutters (faceters) take great pride in every stone, regardless the amount of time it takes. They make sure the correct angles for the gem material are used to bring out the greatest amount of brilliance. Each facet is cautiously cut and polished to precise meet points, even the girdle facets are polished. This differentiates between quality and quantity gemstones in today's world. Before you actually acquire a loose gemstone or a piece of jewelry, you need to ask a lot of questions before you buy. I've shown jewelers specialty cut gems that they have never seen before and couldn't give me an appraisal. Beware of these types of jewelers, because they are limiting themselves to only a few resource of loose gemstones. This lessens the chances of seeing quality cut stones. If you can, invest in a gemstone that you have seen with your own eyes, or ask to see different cuts (designs) of the gem material, so you can see the different cuts between them. Do not ever obtain a loose gemstone from a stock pictures used for a particular designs. These are quanity cut gems and you do not know what your going to get.
