PARIS: A single reef shark can be worth nearly two million dollars in tourism revenue over its lifetime, according to a study released Monday by researchers in Australia.

12. Paradox of Palau
March 28, 2011
The extreme intensity of the sunlight as I walked across the tarmac at Koror International Airport was my first impression of Palau, after arriving just two weeks after September 11, 2001. Koror is 8 degrees north of the Equator between New Guinea and the Philippines. I'd come, like most visitors to Palau, to enjoy a week of scuba diving in one of the premier dive locations in the world. Unlike other visitors, I planned to spend a second week solo sea-kayaking in the Rock Islands (well known now from the TV show "Survivor 2005). My plan was to paddle from Koror to the ecological wonder, Jellyf... (read more)

February 04, 2011
When I went to Palau in the South Pacific in 2001 for the first time, it was to fulfill a dream of scuba diving and solo-kayaking around The Rock Islands. The Rock Islands are one of the most pristine diving and kayaking locations in the world with coral-covered reefs, tropical fish and secluded beaches. However, I was not content just to enjoy paradise. Passion for adventure travel has led me to many exotic locations from mountaineering in the Himalayas to kayaking in the South Pacific. Some companions accuse me of always seeking the thorns among the roses. But my liberal arts education at th... (read more)

16. Qabili Palau Recipe - How to Make a Perfect Afghan dish
December 05, 2010
Qabili Palau is widely regarded as Afghanistan’s national dish. It is best describe as rice cooked in a broth-like sauce, then baked in an oven and topped with julienned carrots, raisins and chopped nuts. If meat is added, it’s usually lamb, chicken or beef; the meat will be covered by the rice. The most important step towards any good palau is the rice; use the best Basmati rice you can find, and don’t be cheap about it. The rice should be cooked so that is neither dry nor wet: sticky rice is a big no-no. If you’ve spoiled the rice, it’s better to make another batch than to continue; all th... (read more)
